Chestnut Lake Campground, Port Republic

The spaces are very large and we have met some of the nicest people.I am glad we came here and plan to keep our camper here as a seasonal We have so much fun here that I hate to go home

My wife and I loved Chestnut Lake Campground so much we plan to keep our camper there for 09 season. Staff and people are friendly and helpfull. Place is clean, Quiet and restfull.

The only thing this camp ground had going for it were it's facilities. The bathrooms were quite reasonable but the staff were very unfriendly. They over charged from what the price showed in the AAA camping guide. There was also a very rude man working at the desk and didn't seem to enjoy out-of-towners. It was also a bit difficult to find as they lack signage and even the people in the area knew very little about the area! This was more of a permanent trailer park rather than a campground and it felt like vacationers were not welcomed! Stay away!

Campground is basically a large open field with sites VERY VERY close to each other. EXTRMELY NOISEY! Staff very helpful and knowledgable. Lake is more "pond like" than lake. Must be very careful where you walk as there are many geese walking around campsites leaving "presents". Not many sites with full hookups. We will not be returning.

I stayed at this campground via my 1000trails membership. A little disapointed when you compair it to other i have been to. My home Park is HERSHEY, PA which is a whole different experience. There was not much to do at Chestnut Lake on th ecampground. The location was perfect for me, because I like to go fishing off LBI so it cut my drive time down substatialy, Everyone staying was nice, but kept to themselves, not much socializing. Met some permanent folks and we had a good time hanging out. I used to camp in New Gretna when i was little and arriving to Chestnut Lake brought back the horros of the dreaded GREENHEAD FLIES. OUCH! Those things still bite like they did so many years ago. Come Prepaired. Hope to see some improvements to this campground inthe future.

In General this campground is in a great location,but is not maintain to well. There are not enough full hook-up connections,and some of these connections need attention. With the ownerships attention this could be a very popular campground
