Situated on 41 spectacular acres 9,200 feet above sea level, Castle Lakes is private campground with two lakes, 50 camping & R.V. sites, and six one or two-bedroom cabins. Restrooms, showers, coin operated laundry facilities, and a playground are also on site.
I made the unforgiveable mistake of arriving early to Castle lake campground. After a 16 hr drive I was needing to stop and rest. My mistake was to come into the office and give them my name. I was chastized and told twice that check in was at 2 pm. I explained that I just needed to sit down somewhere and rest and I would like to park my truck and trailer and sit in my truck. There are no exceptions was the reply. They did not understand or care that I needed to sit down and rest. My Bad. I waited outside until they came and got me. I was then told that I had to have a briefing on the camp ruless. After what seemed 10 long minutes of anal rules ( infractions would not be tolerated ) I was given a 2 page rule book and my keys. I questioned the need for the rule book and asked about parking my ATV trailer. I knew by the look I received that I had broken an unwritten rule already. There were 9 familys here that took a vacation together. These owners seemed to hover everwhere and constanly harass the guests. I could only have peace of mind when we rode out the front gate and left their angry stares behind.
I spent almost $1000 on 4 days in a cabin that was at best mediocre. What a rip off. No phone service within 5 miles and I had to walk over a 1/4 mile to the lodge for Wi-fi. With no phone service and no wi-fi, and no riding your atv in the park, I was Isolated from the rest of the group.
The cabin we rented was supposed to have all needed appliances. I asked about a crock pot when we booked the room. I found out when we got here there was no crock pot nor toaster, nor washing machine and dryer. What a crock. When I questioned the lack of the crock pot, I was met with an angry reply.
I had a great time with the group and riding in the mountains. The main thing our diverse group had in common was making jokes about the jackboot mentality of Jeckle and Hide.
If you got caught walking the wrong way on a one way trail or was seen getting too close to the grass, you are immediatly chastized and harrassed.
I can not remember a more hostile environment except when I went thru POW escape training prior to Viet Nam . How do these people stay in business.
We have gone to Castle Lakes for several years. Had to miss 5 years for different reasons but could not wait to go back. This is the ultimate vacation destination for both couples and families. The 4 wheeling and fishing are awesome but everything is so quiet and peaceful that you feel as if you are in a different world. We will never vacation anywhere else and cannot wait for next year. The owners (Steve & Monica) are great people and go out of their way to make sure you have a vacation to remember for a lifetime.
We have been going to Castle Lakes for 9 years in a row. You could not pick a more scenic place. The owners are wonderful people and will do about anything to make your trip enjoyable. We were also there in July and the whole town of Lake City had electrical problems for 4-5 days. The electric and water have never been a problem at Castle Lakes in the 9 years we have stayed there in our motor home. The previous review sounds like this person is just not a happy camper no matter where he stays.Castle Lakes is a great place to stay.
My wife and I stayed and this is what we observed:
- Discourteous owners who manage the property
- Electricity works sometime
- Water works sometime
- Advertise WiFi - THEY have wifi - campground doesn't
- No cell phone Service
- Park half empty but turned our friends away - said they were "booked"
- They want money for EVERYTHING including firewood and FISHING
- Guests harassed by owners
- A list of RULES a mile long
- Previous owners were nice and these folks JUST DON'T CARE about their guests
- Would be a great place with different owners
Steve & Monica were the best hosts; grounds, buildings--all great and clean. Easy access to Alpine Loop. Our last trip was very memorable. Had 8 in our RV & rented a jeep for the trips out. Couldn't fit everyone in our Polaris RAnger. Would love to go back---Best time of our life.Mountains and scenery just beautiful. Well worth the time and money. The experience was a lot of fun and would definately recommend it to others.
We have been going to the Castle Lakes Campground for the past 5 years to spend at least 1 or 2 weeks. The place is peaceful, friendly, and has its own private fishing. Steve & Monica are wonderful hosts. If you are camping, you have private & clean restrooms with showers, laundry, and their own little store. You are only 7 miles from Lake City if you wish to shop, and they have their own jeep rentals if you wish for more adventure. Evenings can be spent around your very own campfire toasting marshmellows or just chating. Beautiful scenery for the photographer also.
This is a wonderful place for a family with children. I know we plan on taking our grown children & grandchildren this coming summer. We can't wait. I recommend this campground to everyone.
Steve and Monica are great hosts, the lodging is immaculate and well maintained, the fishing is awesome. My parents have been summerlong guests for 2 years now, I try to spend at least one week during the summer up there, my only regret is leaving.
You can't beat the value for the money in lodging..... just bring food and an appetite, everything else is supplied. The campground is a small friendly community, everybody gets along and has fun..... I just left there and am ready to go back!
These owners are some of the nicest, most decent people on the planet. Great scenery, good fishing, located in the most beautiful valley, surrounded by towering mountains. Dog friendly and the kids love it!
