WORST CAMPGROUND I'VE EVER BEEN TO
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/08/08
The previous reviewer 7/6 must have been staying at a different KOA or could the review have been written by the management?
The VA Beach KOA with the trolley to the Oceanfront was the worst campground I've ever stayed at. Our 5-day experience was definitely the opposite.
First, the good points:
1. Proximity to the Oceanfront--about 2 miles
(however, the planes from Oceana can drive you crazy if you try to sit outside because they come about every 4 minutes)
2. GREAT cheap trolley service--friendly trolley drivers
Now the BAD:
1. Expensive $65 a day. We had a lousy, rocky site, with little shade, and no privacy.
2. At check-in long lines caused by disorganized check-in staff, waited 45 minutes
3. NO WATER!!!!!!! The first day low water pressure, only a trickle coming from the onsite water supply. Day two--NO WATER at all. We stopped campground personnel to complain and called the office, and everyone kept saying they didn't know about any problem. In the process of trying to get water out of the faucet, we left one faucet on accidentally. Later that day, they restored the water, our holding tanks overflowed, and flooded our trailer. What a mess!
4. Inadequate and nasty bathrooms and shower facilities. Our bathhouse definitely had not been recently renovated. At 11:00 in the morning the bathrooms had not been cleaned. There were only 2 showers for men and 2 showers for women in the bathhouse near us. The showers were dark, slimy closets, and had insufficient water pressure. And several days they were locked! Why would the campground be locking the showers?
5. The pool may have looked clean from a distance. Did the previous reviewer get in it? There was a scuzzy ring of black oil/grease along the water's surface (suntan oil and dirt combined???) caused because no one is adequately removing it with a scrub brush.
We heard good reports about Holiday Travel Park which is nearby. But reservations start filling up there 6 months ahead for July 4th weekend. Absolutely the best is First Landing State Park, which is right on the Bay. BUT early reservations there are a must!
