Disgusting showers that didn't work
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/05/09
overall the campground is good. We had a good time except when it was time to take showers. The showers were so disgusting and we went to each bath house looking for a clean one but they were all horrible. 2 nights we were there and one shower house didn't even work. Keep your flip flops on!! Stopped up showers, hair clumps floating around in the showers, totally gross. The rest of the grounds were kept up and were ok.

Attitude Adjustment
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/12/09
Checking in at the Rawlins, Wyo KOA gave a whole new meaning to waking on the wrong side of the bed. This manager really needs an attitude adjustment. Not only did we not feel the love he was down right curt, almost disgusted that he had to deal with you! Our experiences in the past couple of years have been excellent until we hit here.......we won't be back to this one........it's already voided in our book. He reminded me of why I had chosen to stay away from KOA's years ago.

Poor Customer Service
By Greg, 05/01/09
The staff of this KOA doesn't care about its clients they just care about money and will charge you anything they can to make a buck with little regard to your camping or RVing experience. VIiginia Beach is a nice place to stay but not at KOA.

Bring your ear plugs!

Campground was nice but unbearable noise from navy jets made this an unpleasant stay. Looking for peace and quite don't stop here.

I wouldn't stay there again, but...
By Jenni, 07/21/08
I wouldn't stay there again. We weren't impressed Likes: -Fun things for kids to do (As long as they don't cancel it) -Pool (Could use some good scrubbing on the sides to get the brown stuff off) -Trolley service -Trash pickup at 8am & 4pm -Location Dislikes: -Sites are not maintained. We were first put in a site with mud. We would have walked out of our camper and stepped right into the mud. It would be nice if they put more gravel on the sites. (They did move us to another site, which was nice but still no gravel, just dirt.) -Family activities were canceled because someone rented the pavilion there. What about the campers? Why do we have to sacrifice? -Actual staff was not very friendly (Summershiners were very friendly!) -Pool does have brown grimy stuff on the sides. (But they do have a cute family of ducks that swims in one of the pools) We were very much disappointed. We did go over to Holiday Trav-l Park and we will be staying there in the future. We booked a full hook-up pull through site. When we got to the site we were first assigned (with the mud) I went into the office and complained about the mud. They offered a site and we went to look at it. It wasn't full hook-up. I was getting irritated so my husband went in. We ended up getting a full hook-up back-in site. I have a feeling the pricing maybe different but we were never offered a refund. Activities were canceled because of a family reunion at the pavilion. The "roads" to get to the sites have many potholes and could use some serious fill dirt and raking. I did not go into the bath houses so I can not say whether they were clean or not. As far as the jet noise...you really can't get away from it if you're staying in VA Beach. Just an FYI - The latest we heard the jets was 11:30pm. And that was only one night. Overall, if you're looking for a campground with no bells and whistles, stay at KOA.

Excellent, if you can stand the jet noise!
By PatrickL, 07/16/08
I don't know if the owner(s) read the bad reviews, but I can confirm that this campground is one of the nicest I've been in the past 2 years. The laundromat area has over 15 machines, and are quite recent. Service was great, and help was readily available. I came in with a mangled RV, got the parts overnighted to the campground and some staff helped me fix my machine. Be aware of the jet noise, as the campground is very close to the Oceana Naval Air Station, and there were F-18 Hornets taking and landing every 2 minutes, even at 9:30 PM. It might be a little less noisy at other campgrounds in the area, as this KOA is probably less than a couple miles from the runway at bird's view... But the view of these birds is fantastic!!!

WORST CAMPGROUND I'VE EVER BEEN TO
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/08/08
The previous reviewer 7/6 must have been staying at a different KOA or could the review have been written by the management? The VA Beach KOA with the trolley to the Oceanfront was the worst campground I've ever stayed at. Our 5-day experience was definitely the opposite. First, the good points: 1. Proximity to the Oceanfront--about 2 miles (however, the planes from Oceana can drive you crazy if you try to sit outside because they come about every 4 minutes) 2. GREAT cheap trolley service--friendly trolley drivers Now the BAD: 1. Expensive $65 a day. We had a lousy, rocky site, with little shade, and no privacy. 2. At check-in long lines caused by disorganized check-in staff, waited 45 minutes 3. NO WATER!!!!!!! The first day low water pressure, only a trickle coming from the onsite water supply. Day two--NO WATER at all. We stopped campground personnel to complain and called the office, and everyone kept saying they didn't know about any problem. In the process of trying to get water out of the faucet, we left one faucet on accidentally. Later that day, they restored the water, our holding tanks overflowed, and flooded our trailer. What a mess! 4. Inadequate and nasty bathrooms and shower facilities. Our bathhouse definitely had not been recently renovated. At 11:00 in the morning the bathrooms had not been cleaned. There were only 2 showers for men and 2 showers for women in the bathhouse near us. The showers were dark, slimy closets, and had insufficient water pressure. And several days they were locked! Why would the campground be locking the showers? 5. The pool may have looked clean from a distance. Did the previous reviewer get in it? There was a scuzzy ring of black oil/grease along the water's surface (suntan oil and dirt combined???) caused because no one is adequately removing it with a scrub brush. We heard good reports about Holiday Travel Park which is nearby. But reservations start filling up there 6 months ahead for July 4th weekend. Absolutely the best is First Landing State Park, which is right on the Bay. BUT early reservations there are a must!

GREAT....would go again!
By Connie, 07/07/08
Choice between the KOA or the Holiday Trav-L-Park?? I have a 30ft. motorhome, so I wanted a campground that had shuttle service to the beach and they both have that. I didn't make reservations, so after the long drive from NJ, I came across the KOA 1st & just drove in. The staff were very helpful & always greeted us along the camp with a hello & smile. Propane was cheaper down there too, right at the campground. The new bouncy pillow was a hit with all the kids...even teens. The swing set & jungle gym looked new too. The pool was warm & clean. The restrooms & showers were beautiful...all newly renovated. Laundry room was nice & convenient right at the store & pool area. The trolly to the beach was fantastic & when we drove into the Holiday Park, I noticed their sites seemed a lot closer together & a little noisy, so I was glad I made the KOA decision. The trolly is the way to go as there's only lots & meter parking at the beach. You can get daily or 3 day passes at the camp store which are cheaper, otherwise bring exact $1 for the ride. The JET noise IS an issue, but actually, as I watched them, I am grateful for their willingness to serve our country. It was only during the day & at night, we had the air on, so I never heard them if they did go over. All in all it was a perfect trip! Oh yea, if you're coming from NJ or north, outside of Dover, DE, take Route 113 instead of Rt. 13 down to the Bay-Bridge Tunnel. You knock off 17 of those stinkin stoplights & it's only a mile longer!!

Our Stay was good
By sherri t, 06/13/08
Good Ac in Cabin, clean and new bathroom and showers and good selection of stuff in store. Pool was clean and nice. Shower water was almost too hot, and be careful not to burn. The Wifi worked great, I am using it now to write this review. I would stay here again. Be aware of the jet noise in all of Va Beach from 8AM to 7 PM, the nearby bases are quite busy.
