works as a passing through campground
Some people will say "Hey, it's only $35 a night, it's better than a Wal-Mart Parking lot." Others will say "Hey, I'm going to stay at a Wal-Mart and save $35." We called this place with a couple hours notice and they had a couple spots open--which actually was a true statement. Despite some negative comments I figured I'd chance the $35 rather then boondock at a Wal-mart, not have full use of my travel trailer and try to run off of my generator on a hot July night. Bottom line--it's $35 and you get a full hook-up and a pull thru site right off the highway. Staff was very friendly when I called and checked in, they led me to the site with their golf cart and even gave me a weather update about a storm coming in within the hour. Yes, the place is old and things are outdated, none of the toilets in the bathrooms match--but it was very CLEAN when I checked everything out. The showers were actually pretty nice. Bathroom stalls--not so much, but again, they were CLEAN. Yes, the train is a prop and needs a paint job...but really? I didn't plan to stay there for the train in the picture. The pool is old and small, but the water was clear. We got there late and did not use the pool. Camp store didn't seem like much, but I think they said it closed between 7-8PM. I did see a glimpse of an old bar pool table and a foosball table I think. The site: The whole campground is gravel and yes, again, it's aged. It does have a nice view of the highway....... and yes you do hear the highway pretty well...but if you stay at a Wal-mart or a rest stop you'll hear just as much noise. My rig is a total of about 57 feet from the front bumper of the truck to the extended bumper on the travel trailer. We just barely fit on the site we had, but I did see that up the hill were more expensive and nice motorhomes. We had plenty of clean power and my plug was just barely warm when I pulled it the next morning. Water--didn't try it, we used our fresh water tank, so not sure about that. We just stayed one night, passing thru town.
For us it worked because we didn't have to worry about getting up early and getting out early like if it was a Wal-mart. It felt a little more secure than sitting in a parking lot too--so that plus the advantages of being able to hook up were worth $35 to me. We even got a GoodSam discount that brought the total down to $31 a night.
