Psychorude owner. WILL NOT GO BACK!!!
By edgar215, 10/3/11
Beautiful campground but the rudest manager (she may be the owner?) we have ever met. We were going up the steep little road to the entrance when we were stopped by a woman in a Dodge Ram truck. She looked at me and said in a disgusted voice, "May I Help You?". Not knowing who in the heck this woman was, I told her I was just headed to the campground. She rolled her eyes and said, "THIS IS THE CAMPGROUND! - DO YOU HAVE RESERVATIONS?". I said no and she replied "WELL WE'RE FULL". There was a moment of silence as my wife and I sat there stunned and I said OK, we'll turn around. She said nothing and just drove off. We went on up to the campground entrance, turned around and left. We were so shocked by the rudeness, we both sat in silence except for the occasional "WHAT A RUDE BITCH!" we would each exclaim from time to time. I've been camping for many years and never ran across anyone that rude. WE WILL NEVER GO BACK.

Lovely Views and Great Campground
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 4/26/11
We came here to relax for the week and it's been great. We are in P5 with a great view. Storms came up while we were gone and another camper and Matt pulled my parents canopyin then called to let us know. They weren't able to get ours ....but offered assistance when we got back with tools, a ladder and helped us fix it. Needless to say the canopys stay in now. Clean campground and clean restrooms. No playground for the kids...but we played horseshoe's and frizbee so we were fine. We even went to Blue Heron today to White water raft, it's was great. Nice campground...we will be back. Small road getting up, but no problems really. My parents have a 36ft and we have a 26ft. Just look for the signs and it will be easy to get here. We had no problems.

run, run fast...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/10
I can only start with the rude way we were greeted by a not so friendly pissed off "what do you want". i would think the obvious answer would be that we were interested in staying here. But i guess that's not obvious. When signing in the man was pushy, rude, wouldn't look me in the eye and just plain mean. i asked if there was acess to the river and he replied " GO STAY AT THE RIVER IF YOU WANT A RIVER" . it was merely a question. so we did look at our "tent" area it was a sad little hole in the dark corner of a dirt road. no view no openings at all hardly enough room to walk around in after you park your car and set up. Only until i told him that we were unhappy about the view and general campsite did he start to act nice. "ohhh i wouldn't want you not to stay here" in a very condescending way. He just didn't want me to hassle him and try to get a refund. Even though we walked to our site saw it and came back wanted a refund he wouldn't. only gave us partial. Needless to say we didn't stay there. Right down the road is French Broad river camp go there they are nice and super friendly. Campfire Lodgings will ruin your trip unless you are in a RV and have the view they do. be warned.

Don't Dare Cancel Your Reservations!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/29/08
My wife and I have been avid word of mouth advertisers for Campfire Lodgings for the past five years. We have stayed there many times and even taken my pastoral staff there. However, due to circumstances beyond our control, we had to cancel reservations we had made in Novemeber 2008. While attempting to explain, Andi, the owner rudely cut me off and proceeded to tell me how much money "I had cost her" by cancelling. Evidently short term dollars mean more to her than long term relationships and repeat business. She was not even close to being understanding and even farther from being professional. The place is absolutely beautiful, yes. The attitude of the ownner is too....unless you have an emergency arise and have to cancel, then the ugliness outweighs the beauty. Unless you have a guarantee from life that unexpected things will not arise that may cause you to have to cancel reservations here, YOU'D BETTER BOOK SOMEWHERE ELSE!

What gives with the rude manager??!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/22/08
Fine facilities, but the incredibly rude manager ruined my entire weekend. (I do not enjoy being insulted when I am still checking in.) I hated this place.

Didn't Want to Leave
By GARY, 10/8/08
My husband and I just returned home from a 6 night stay at Campfire Lodgings. We absolutely love this place. Ande and Matt took awesome care of us. We hope we are able to make this a regular camping destination every year. The long drive 685 miles is worth it to get here. Our dog, Buffy, has never been treated so well. She didn't want to leave either. Never thought I'd be homesick for a campground. :)

straight up a steep hill
By tyler g, 12/31/07
I cant believe folks have not noted the impossible conditions in not only finding this campground..but the straight up gravelish road one has to pull a rig to get to this place...we arrived after dark! plan ahead and DO NOT do this...the turn off was dimly lit, once we pulled in hauling a 36 ft 5th wheel..we could not believe this was the actual entrance, turned around (somehow??) and tried again..IT WAS THE ENTRANCE!! there are hair pin turns- it is slick and if you make a mistake, you go off a cliff! I was a wreck! and shaking by the time we reached the top..I am on the top now and think I will walk to the bottom with my dog and meet my husband and rig...beware if you have an RV...this place is NUTS getting to...will not return, only hope I get off this mtn!

They've lost our business
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/6/07
Campers, beware. We found that Campfire Lodgings doesn't follow its posted policy on deposits and cancellations. The campground's Web site said our 5-night reservation in mid-October required one night's deposit. When we booked online, our credit card was immediately charged for the whole stay. No problem until my brother was critically injured in a wreck 10 days before our check-in. We immediately canceled our trip and instead spent vacation arranging a funeral. We expected to lose one night's deposit. But we're disgusted that the campground managers refused to discuss a refund for the inflated deposit they collected -- especially given our extraordinary circumstances. We've filed a complaint with the state and won't deal with Campfire Lodgings again.

Picture perfect RV site
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/8/07
We recently stayed for eight days at this beautiful "little piece of heaven" campground. Our RV site was immaculate-- nice large concrete parking pad AND patio overlooking miles of mountains and French Broad River. The managers were very helpful and extended warm Southern hospitality. We met lots of other great campers and have already planned on our trip back for next year. Asheville is loaded with locations to visit, streams to kayak, crafts galore and the Biltmore. Don't miss this one-- it's a Southern gem if there ever was one!!!

Not tent camping friendly
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/24/06
My husband and I spent five nights at Campfire Lodgings. With little rain over those five days, our tent site was always wet and muddy. There is a drainage problem at the tent sites that needs to be greatly improved. The restrooms were clean but not convenient to most tent sites. Most tent sites are very small and the few sites with wooden platforms are to small for the average size tent. All RV sites had a light, trash can, water and electricity. Several of the tent sites did not have water or electricity. All tent sites were dark and all trash had to be carried up to the office area. We got the feeling that the campground was designed for the RV visitors and discouraged the tent camper from returning for a second visit. My husband and I don't think we will go back.
