Beachway Motel & Cabins, Duluth

Great place super people and the dog even gave us a tour of Lake Superior.We will be back in 2013 for the tall ships.

My husband and I have been going to skips cabins for over 10 years now. We love staying there when we go to Duluth. One time we were up north for a family emergency and there were no open hotel rooms or cabins anywhere. Skip let us stay in one of his personal campers free of charge. Now a days its hard to find good people like this who will go out of there way to help some one, even when there is nothing in it for them! I always feel very welcome and cozy when staying at Beachway. They have a great view of lake Superior also. If you want to have a real north shore expierience go to Beachway Motels and Cabins!!

we went for a week ,skip and shirley r great. quiet and relaxing. The kids had a great time. very clean for the price its amazing.

The people here are well lets just kept it clean. I never had a worst RODENTS experiences they are every were.

If you are looking for a mom and pop operation and like down to earth people and atmosphere this is the place to go. I can't believe some of these reviews. As far as smoking goes, I'd like to know where you can go to smoke inside anywhere (other than in your own home). Skip always has a joke to tell you and a smile on his face (even when he is not feeling well). This is a great place to relax and meet new people (if you sit around the evening fire). I know of no other motel or cabin where you don't have to leave the place to sit by a fire. There is a great view of the lake from almost every cabin and access to it just down the road (1/2 block away). It is not too far away from any attraction that most tourists visit either. I have been coming up here for over 20 years and wouldn't change where I stay for anything!

Wow I can't believe the previous review, we were there the same weekend, and it was totally awesome, we made some great friends, Skip & Shirley were the best, & Luke too, & hey girls, get to ya later, never saw or experienced what was said. If you wanted the RITZ THEN GO & PAY, yes they are older cabins, and the price is right, where else can you go and get a CLEAN cabin, & people who welcome you, COMFORTABLE BEDS & CLEAN, we never slept so good, I wish we could find a bed like that for home, TOWELS, the towels are clean, we brought our own cause of the review that we read on here, we never had to use ours cause there was nothing wrong with the ones supplied, they were good, as far as the rodent went with the dog, I never saw any in our cabin, or any signs of one, you are in the country, and be happy that Luke got it before it could get into your cabin, there were NO SIGNS OF RODENTS, the housekeeper is very good at her job, Luke is very well mannered, better than some guests I'm thinking, as far as getting your money returned, if you go to a motel and you booked your nights, how much would you have gotten back????? They hold all of your money, the motels or any other place will, they have to fill the room-or cabin for you, cause all they can do then( if you don't show, OR LEAVE EARLY) is a walk -in, IF YOU BACK DOWN, they could of had it booked for someone who would appreciate the hospitatilty, the beauty of the lake,, the sounds of the waves hitting the shore at night, and don't forget the people that you meet, and the camp fires,,& LUKE, and the GOOD FRIENDS, SPOILED I THINK YOU ARE . Who else would come light your gas grill if you can't get it lit, who else gets a fire going, who else would tell ya some GOOD JOKES & STORIES ABOUT THE SHORE, & once in a while jam with ya, bring your musical instruments, anything, and jam around the fire, it's great, WE'LL SEE YA NEXT YEAR, and Gary will bring his guitar. Skip & Shirley put on camp fires when the weather permits, and everyone is welcome, it is good fun and a time to meet good people, no one comes to your door to tell you about the fires, they tell you at check in that you are welcome, there is NO SMOKING in the cabins or motel, but if you want to smoke, do it outside, and put yours butts in the containers provided, there was NOT ONCE that they said anything about smoking, just out of respect we did not leave our butts laying around. People if you want to relax this is the place to go, just leave us an open spot cause we are going to be back. We were here 20 years ago, & a month ago for our 1nd-20th Honneymoon, and we loved it then, YES, guys this was the place, Luv, & hope to see ya soon, Gary & Sandy DeMarre This place is close to EVERYTHING, THE BEST..... The outiside is at best... kept. The welcoming committee of Shirley and the dog was less than I had hoped for. The dog watched a mouse walk under the car that was parked in the lot. Shirley came out of a old tin trailer park model. the dog took off for a few minutes whle we went in to the office to register when we walked out he had then returned with some sort of dead wet rodent in its mouth and tried to give it to my husband. Disgusting. We then proceeded to the cabin where we were instructed on the mystery of a deadbolt lock. Skp decided then to enter in to our most humble of accomodations to do a little check up on our heating unit which in itself was frightening, not to mention the orange electrical cord that was strung accoss the floor near the outside wall and then behind the gas stove to the kitchen counter where a vintage toaster was plugged into it. The bed was covered in a cute 1984 country blue bedspread while we unpacked Skip made sure we were going to have heat if we needed it. We then went outside and skip made sure to comment on politics, the President, and Lawyers and who of them should be drafted first. hmmm. I couldnt help but think that he was rather bold and ignorant at the same time, after all he knew nothing about us, certainly not enough to talk about sensitive subjects as these. I let it go. My husband and I went inside and tried to make ourselves at home. Firstly sitting on the bed and immediately realizing that it was very springy. as in you can feel the springs and the wire surround the perimeter. While laying down you could feel the coils under your body. My husband brought a thick blanket that he placed over the bed to try to cusion them. In response to our attempts to create some comfort I woke up with my body hurting from restless tossing and turning. I told my husband that we could not stay here another night. The bed was just too uncomfortable. I had paid cash for 2 nights upon check in. We decided to go to the office first thing and let Skip and Shirley know of our dissappointment . Skip chose to disreguard my complaint by telling me that they have Never had a complaint about the beds and that they always have people telling them that they never have slept so good. He even had the audacity to comment on our size. Stating that both of us being larger people could have something to do with how comfortable the beds are for us. I wish to clarify that my husband and I have traveled often and often seek out reasonably priced accomdations but in all of our travels I have never paid to sleep in a bed of this poor quality nor age. The original label on the bed was last inspected in 1986 and was probably many years old before then. Skip reluctantly returned 30.00 dollars to us which is less than 1/2 of our money due back not to mention tax. We left. I thought I would just let it go but the more that I thought about it the more I realized that along with the opportunity to make a living being an inn keeper comes responsibilty to keep your guests accomodated. Had the owners returned our money I would never have had to write this. I would have called it an experience and moved on... rather now iI am just flat out disgusted. On a side note that again I would have over looked, the towels were grey dingey and there was a larvae of a beetle in the frying pan that I was going to use from the kitchen. ugh.

The cabins are old but very clean. The owners are very nice and make a point to make everyone feel welcome. They start a campfire every night for the guests. There is a DNR lake access right next door. Tough to beat for the money.

We have been going up for many years now. We enjoyed this place soooo much that we went and checked out their other place on the Wisconsin side and have been enjoying that too. Love Skip and Shirley. They will do anything to make your stay and trip more enjoyable. We have brought friends up with us and now they bring friends with them to share the experience. We have also made new friends up there that we keep in touch with. Our children are now adults and still want to come with us whenever we go that direction! The sunrise is awesome!! If you want good people and good times I strongly recommend Beachway! I can't say enough good about Skip and Shirley and the Beachway. See you again and again and again!
