This place is like nowhere else. Some places have reasonable prices, some places offer a choice of DVDs to their visitors, some places are cozy, some places include a breakfast in the price of the stay. This place ... THIS place does it ALL (and then some). The breakfasts are full meals, beautiful and tasty. The DVD library sits beside a popcorn machine that is accompanied by melted butter in a crockpot. The decoration - how could you miss it? - goes beyond kitsch and enters a realm that beggars description. It's just amazing. There is stuff EVERYwhere! I am instantly depressed by almost all chain hotels and motels. I find them antiseptic and soulless. The Anchor Inn is everything they're not. It's cozy, warm, insanely cute, and welcoming, The books on the shelves are meant to be read. The coffee beans in the grinder in your room are meant to be ground up. I've stayed three times now, never anywhere but on the ground floor of the main building. I love it. Absolutely love it. I live in Seattle and have gone to the Oregon coast so many, many times and for years I wanted to stay at a couple places that offered ocean views and seemed to always be full. When I finally did stay at both of them, I was disappointed. They were MUCH pricier than the Anchor Inn and one of the two, located within walking distance of the Anchor Inn, which had looked so cute and cottage-y from the outside, was dark and dank and cold. I'm so sorry I drove past the Historic Anchor Inn so many times without knowing it was there but I'm never making that mistake again.

I go to the Anchor Inn twice a year to recharge my creative batteries, and so do quite a number of artists (writers, producers, photographers). What I love about the place is NO ONE from the staff goes into my room while I am there--no disruptive pounding on my door about whether I want my room cleaned, nor do I have to worry about a maid messing up the notes I've laid out on the floor. And the place is so crammed with antiques, books, old furniture, and knickknacks that I always come away with several ideas for new writing projects or how to enliven the ones in progress. Another thing I love about the Anchor is that it's like living on the set of a 1940s Agatha Christie novel. If you long for a private creative place, or want to have a romantic interlude with lots of privacy, this is the place to go.

My sister recently passed away unexpectedly and as I reflected on her life and this, our mutual favorite destination, I felt moved to write a review of our experience at Lincoln City's Historic Anchor Inn. My family has stayed at the Historic Anchor Inn more times than I can count. From the first moment I laid eyes on the whimsical decor, the enchanted hallways, and the intriguing nooks and crannies of this hidden treasure, I was in love. I know this will sound like an impossibly overstated report, but there really are no words that would be adequate to describe the profound affect that this place has on the spirit of it's guests. Kip is the owner of the Historic Anchor Inn and he is the Visionary responsible for the creation of such a unique sanctuary. Bringing to life a Vision like this is truly an art, and Hospitality is the medium. Kip's efforts are perfectly complimented by Misty and the rest of the support staff. More than a team, they seem to be almost family, and they treat each guest as such as well. Traveling in the United States, and also internationally, is a predominant part of my career. I have stayed in some of the more unique and prestigious destinations available. Nothing has ever compared to the visits I have cherished at the Anchor. More than a place of lodging, each opportunity I have had to stay has touched my soul. There is a substance to every corner of the property. I have had the privilege of sharing my discovery with my family and friends over the years. They have fallen just as deeply in love with this incredible respite. (It really wasn't a hard sell.) I have confidence that anyone who enjoys an authentic retreat from a sterile and corporate society will find the same to be true for them when they stay here. There seems, to me, to be something divinely inspired, perhaps even "anointed" here. The only sad truth is that places like this seem unlikely to last forever. I would hope there would always be a Historic Anchor Inn sanctuary for life weary travelers and refugees. I am soberly aware this seems unlikely. All good things must come to an end, they say. I sincerely hope that this may be that rare exception. But you should not take that chance. I would urge anyone to experience this place for yourself while you still can. Slow down. Let it's historic "haunted" hallways draw you back to a less complicated time. Let the surroundings touch your heart with Peace as it has mine. You will be glad you did.

If you are one of those people who doesn't like to stay in impersonal, corporate-style hotels, this is definitely the place for you (conversely, if above is your thing, you might want to find a chain hotel up the street). The rooms are all different, amazing and filled with antiques and charm and giant comfy beds. You get fresh ground coffee in your room (yes, it's REAL coffee, with a grinder and everything), access to a kitchen if you want to bring back your own food, and the owners even have an awesome DVD collection that you can borrow from to watch a movie in your room. The grounds are lovely, you're a short walk from the beach and not far from downtown, and the breakfast you get with your stay is better than the majority of breakfast joints in which I've ever eaten. It's a wonderful place to stay if you like places with personality and charm and a unique flavor. Highly recommend!

This hotel is more like a bed and breakfast, homey and private. The suites are a great value, with kitchenette, separate sleeping area, and sitting room. If you are a creative or artistic type I bet you will love this place as much as I do - it's decorated in a kitschy, fun, retro style with folk art and vintage pieces throughout. The staff treats you like family, the food is incredible, and I can't wait to get back. If you love a one of a kind experience stay at the Anchor.

I visit Lincoln City about three times a year, typically staying for about a week. I wouldn't stay anywhere else but at the Anchor. The staff is incredibly friendly, the nautical ambiance is wonderful, and Kip's free breakfasts are to die for. The rooms are actually two-room suites (at astonishingly low prices) with DVD players in each room and a full library of DVDs in the lobby to choose from (along with free popcorn). Books are everywhere. The Anchor has a charm unmatched anywhere else.

The Historic Anchor Inn is truly one-of-a-kind. I've stayed there many times over many years, and have never been disappointed in the experience. The decor is charming, fun, and retro, with different collections of knick-knacks, artwork, and books in each room or cabin. The cleanliness is top-notch across the board; I've never had the slightest hiccup in that department (and believe me, I'm picky). The meals are SENSATIONAL! Each morning, a unique and appetizing breakfast is served--quiche, for example, or breakfast enchiladas or even pork chops, all with a gourmet touch. And don't get me started about the awesome dinners! A recent special that made my palate sing: garam masala soup! (I want some now, please!) Then are the many wonderful little extras that distinguish the Historic Anchor from any other lodging: free popcorn (with butter!) in a popcorn machine in the lobby; complimentary peanut butter cookies; and coffee beans with grinder in every room for a delicious cup of Joe at any time of day. But to my mind, the best thing about the Anchor is the staff. They're always ready with a friendly comment or joke, and they really do feel like family after you visit a few times. If I could give this place an overall rating beyond five circles, I certainly would. Ten seems fair, as in super-excellent...or maybe I'd make that twenty-five, as in out of this world across the board! Do yourself a favor and be a part of the experience the next time you travel to Lincoln City, Oregon.

If you want a five-star, go somewhere else. If you want a trip down memory lane, this place is it. Wonderfully fun. Comfortable. Great breakfasts. A caring staff. Never a problem that couldn't be quickly resolved... and that's the key, isn't it? The Anchor Inn is not for everyone. This place is not your standard motel, but I'll be coming back as often as I can. Go to their website, do the reading, look at the photos, and see if it's for you. Give it a try. I've visited The Anchor Inn nine times a year for the last five years to write novels. It's clean, well organized and the people are always friendly. One week I put my back out and was laid up in bed on drugs for most of the week. The folks saw I didn't starve and even drove me out to buy ice packs for my back. How could you ask for more! No ocean view, but great collectables everywhere.
