Oakland Seashore Cabins, Rockport

My daughter and I came into Rockport from the west. My daughter kept saying, "Are you sure we're near the ocean? I don't see it!". After driving down the long unpaved driveway through the woods, the ocean appeared behind the building used as the office. The tiny cabins were comfortable distances away from each other. We were fortunate enough to get one on the ocean's edge. This is like a hidden jewel. The cabins are very tiny, but the one we stayed in was perfect for myself and teenage daughter. It is simple, quaint and quiet. We could hear the ocean and the lighthouse nearby, and watch the tide come in and out. The first thing we saw in the morning was the ocean through our window as we sat up in bed. This place is not fancy, but perfect for a quiet getaway. The location is far enough away from the main thoroughfare, yet close enough to not be too isolated. There is also a beach located on the property, which is a very quiet place to enjoy the ocean. I would definately recommend this as a place to stay for a quiet retreat. My daughter and I plan to return here for a quiet place to stay in a beautiful part of Maine.

We have stayed at Oakland Seashore Cottages for five years as we pass through to Deer Island Maine. At first, we stayed just on the way up but now we also stay on the way back to Vermont. Last year, we discovered that this wonderful place was up for auction and wished we had the millions needed to bid on it! Alas, we do not! We came back to Vermont and watched the web site to see if it would still be available to travelers afiter it changed hands. Yahoo! It is still open and welcoming people who love the importance of: no traffic sounds (it is down a long drive) a basic cottage(each with a small deck) or room, a view that cannot be expressed in beauty, a price that is within the range of "normal" folks, friendly staff and guests, eating establishments close by that are above average. We hope to return year after year and enjoy the ambiance of this wonderful establishment. The history of this place is worth asking about.

We love this place! Have enjoyed many visits, enjoying the quiet, the sound of the ocean at night, sitting behind the cabin in lawn chairs and reading...oftem we have only been able to stop for a night or two on our way through Maine to Massachusetts...but it is worth going out of your way if you have to. We were planning on a long stay this coming year and were dismayed when we heard that it was to be sold. We were thrilled to get a notice from the new owner tht they would be open for business! Yes, it is rustic, some of the cabins more so than others...but what do you really need so close to the ocean and sweet woods? Running water and a bed! My husband is almost competely blind and he thinks of this place as a little bit of heaven!The first time that I drove down the road thru the woods, I could not imagine where we were...it feels as though you are nowhere near civilization! So restful.

By far the best experience I have ever had in New England Cottage hopping. The location is unbeatable, the staff are friendly and helpful without being intrusive. A sure bet for a romantic getaway or a great place to deurbanize your family. Clean, reasonable, secluded without being inaccessible. I return every year.

When my husband and I got married in Rockport on labor day weekend, our entire bridal party and some of our family stayed here primarily because they had the lowest prices by far in the area. We were pleasantly surprised! They have a nice wooded site with basic cabins (some with multiple bedrooms connected by kitchen areas), and rooms with nice decks that overlook the water. All are very clean. I would definitely recommend this hotel to anyone looking for the basics at a great value in this area.
