Next time I'll sleep in my car...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/6/11
I was in the area for business and I chose the Riviera Motel because of it's close location to where I had to go for work. The motel is in a sketchy area of town. The staff that greeted me were friendly and welcomed me inside. They gave me a discounted rate for $50.00 a night (the listed price was $75.00). I asked for a non-smoking room and they gave me the room key and said that I was all set. As soon as I walked into the room it smelt musty and smokey. There was no smoke detector so either they forgot that I wanted a non smoking room or they completely disregarded my request. The blinds were flimsy and I didn't feel like I had any privacy in the room. I don't understand why they just couldn't buy curtains or a pull down shade. I noticed that the room was very cold so I looked for the thermostat for about 20 minutes. When I couldn't find it, I tried calling the office on the phone and no one picked up. Then I went to the office and asked if there was any way I could control the heat in my room. They told me that there were no heat controls and that they just turned the heat on. I left to get food and can back an hour later and the room was still cold. I checked the 3 radiators in the room. The one by my bed had no heat coming out of it. The other two (one in the bathroom and one in the room) had some heat coming out. I think the room was poorly insultated and couldn't hold in the heat. Either way, that is just unacceptable. I tried calling the office again and no one picked up. Then I tried thaking a shower and realized that there was no soap or shampoo. After searching, I finally found a tiny bar of soap on the window sill behind the blinds. Why couldn't they just put it on the sink? There was no shampoo to be found anywhere. Probably the only good thing about my room was that the bathroom was newly renovated and clean. Went I went to bed I slept with three shirts and two hoodies because it was so cold. When I came back for a second night (my company made me stay there because they were paying for it), it was the same story. A small bar of soap for my shower and a cold room. When I got out of the shower the room felt like it heated up a little bit so I went to bed without my sweatshirts. I woke up at 2 in the morning and the room was freezing. I had to sleep in bed again with five layers of clothes on. Also a note about the locks on the doors. My door had a normal lock and the security chain that pretty much all hotels have. The door lock was new and worked effectively however the security chain looked like it was 30 years old and rusted. When I went to go to bed, I tried putting the chain into the slide. It appeared to fit, but I tapped it with my finger and it fell out. When I put it in again, the same thing happened. Don't be fooled by the security chain and double check to make sure it works if you stay here. Take my advice and spend your night at the Holiday Inn Express in Rochester. With AAA prices the rooms are about 85 dollars a night. I'm sure its worth the extra 30 dollars. My job requires me to travel a few times a month and I've stayed at numerous hotels and motels ranging from great to bad. This one was the worst I've stayed in yet. Please reconsider staying here if you are in the area. You may save money, but you get what you pay for.

New Hamptin Beach nightmare!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/21/07
We reserved the room with kitchen for 7 days based on old pictures we saw and very few complaints on the web. We though it was going to be cheasy. We had to make a deposit about a third and rest on check-in. Since it was our 1st time in the area, it was a risk. Most places were booked solid, we were stuck. I got to tell you, we never saw anything like it before. We made the best of it but never again, we bought many cleaning products that evening to sterilize the place a 1000x better. The good news, excellent location to the beach, the service was polite, room service also just no thorough, no damaged walls, clean towels and sheets, lights worked, the tv, remote, stove, fridge, microwave, ac worked also. The bad news, very small dirty rooms, no phones to call for help, found an old room key under bed, beds and pillows were worn out and noisy, bed cover was dirty and musty, luckily we had 2 pillows of our own. Under the beds and dresser, never vacuumed, greasy, dust and other things you don't want to touch was piled up. Everything was grease covered! The fridge was rusty inside and out, broken fridge shelf, yellow painted toilet seat when cleaned with windex colour came off. The supplied kitchen was missing most things when they said it was complete, Patio door locked loose and cheap, stains on the ceiling, broken rear window blind, the smell of urine on the wall near the head board, tobacco/musty smell was strong until the ac was turned on, black greasy blue carpet (we had to wear our shoes all the time). They should have at least ripped that carpet out. Bathroom floor equally black sticky grease so we used towels as mats there. Cleaning service didn't like that, so they left several paper mats, ya know the kind used when you clean cars? ha ha this is the truth. Our first night was Saturday and it was craziest ever. I video taped what happened. A noisy wild party was on till 3:30am in a room 2 doors down. In fact, a bunch of guys later trashed that room at 4am after drinking all night. Everything smashed, glass and wood chips everywhere, then the next day I saw the owner and helpers putting drawers back together? We asked the front desk guy, if it was a busy night and this happened often? He said "no" but we didn't believe it. The rest of the week was quiet except for the harley bikers rumbling (without mufflers) up and down the boulvard all night long, every night except when raining. We cut our trip a day early

This is a roach motel!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/19/07
I have never been treated so poorly at any establishment. The staff is rude, uncaring, and just plain repulsive. I would rather spend the night under a bridge.

Bring your own sheets.
By Karen, 7/24/06
Be sure to ask to see (and smell!) the room before you pay, because the manager will not refund your money once you've given it to him. (His "boss won't let" him.) The rooms are dirty, and smell of mold, mildew, and tobacco. The walls seem to be made of cardboard and are broken in places, so bring earplugs. The sheets are dirty, so bring your own. If you keep complaining, you may eventually be shown to a room that doesn't stink, but it will be really hot inside. I paid $70 for the night but checked out at 5:00 p.m. as it was Saturday night and the crowd looked like they were gonna get really, really lively.
