Hotel Nichols, South Haven

We had our family reunion in South Haven this year. The hotel was the perfect location as it was very cozy and had the home like feeling. The location is very central to all the beaches as well as the restaurants so it eased our mind as to allow the teenagers free range. All of the rooms and facilities were clean. The price was wonderful for the location. Fabulous staff and nice breakfast that was beyond the expected continental.

Had a most pleasant stay in Hotel Nichols. Stayed in the cutest little room, the Riverview room. The Inn is over 100 years old and very charming. The stair case, molding, trim are made of original woodwork. The original tin ceiling hangs in the lobby. Cute wooden cubby holes still hold the keys. I love this place. It is so original.

This Inn is located in the perfect setting. You walk right out of the lobby and you are across the street from restaurants, bars on the river and the little movie theatre. The rooms were very clean and fresh. I like all things old, restored. So that was a plus. Value could not be beat. They run a stay one night, get one free in the fall.

My wife and I were looking very forward to spending 3 nights this past Saturday thru Tuesday. At the time of reservation, I was told that there was a 10 day cancellation policy. However the lady (I believe she was the proprieter) also said "if anything happens" which I interpreted to mean that in the event of emergency, the policy would not be enforced. On Saturday as we were traveling from our home near Indianapolis, IN via US Hwy 31 near Plymouth, IN when our car broke down. (I believe that at that point we were more than 1/2 way to South Haven) The car had to be towed and couldn't be repaired till Monday. I called the Hotel within an hour to notify them that we would have to cancel. Today, I noticed that the Hotel Nichols had debited my account for one night. I called and spoke to the proprieter, once again explaining the situation, and was told that according to MIchigan law she could charge for one night. She showed no concern for my plight and was not the least concerned about future business either from me or anyone I might have referred. I explained that I could provide proof of having been towed and of having the repairs made to which she turned a deaf ear. I repeat, we will never stay in this establishment.

I would not recommend this place, we booked two nights but got food poisoning in a near by town, so asked if they would credit the second night to our next stay. They said they could have rented the room so they were not going to do that, so kept our money! Never had that happen before in our many years of traveling. I could understand it if place was full, but it was nearly empty.

We bike the Kal-haven Trail every year and stay at Hotel Nichols. We usually come is a group of up twenty. The place is fantastic. The rooms are cozy and very clean. Anna and her staff are so easy to book with and can arrange just about anything. A great bonus is that they can accommodate in-door storage for all of our bikes. They have a huge lobby where we can giggle all night. They are very easy going. Group prices are fantastic!!!

The location was fantastic. The hotel is centrally located and across the street from Su Casa Restaurant, Historic South Haven Theater and the Idler Riverboat. It is just a few minutes to the beach and Lighthouse. It was nice to be able to sit outside and play checkers over morning coffee wt my son. The continental breakfast is huge !!!!! The Innkeepers work very hard and it is evident in the cleanliness of the rooms. I want to thank them for sending our son's teddy bear home to us. South Haven and Hotel Nichols was definitely worth the money and the time. We will definitely come back.

I loved the location. I enjoyed the breakfast in the morning and the fact that we could sit outside and sip our coffee and watch the town. My wife thought that the rooms were fascinating. My favorite was the Hunters Room.

My parents just came back from a stay at your inn and they cannot stop talking about it. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves. My father loved the hunters room. He loved the antique lobby and all the different rooms. He enjoyed his conversations wt Anna outside. He said that the place was a hidden gem. I want to thank Hotel Nichols for making their anniversary so special

Our stay at Hotel Nichols was very wonderful. We stayed in the Blue Room. It was so much fun. It actually looks exactly as on the website. The woodwork is amazing in the inn, especially the staircase and lobby desk which is over 100 years old. We enjoys drinking coffee outside and watching the world pass by. They served raspberries and blueberries for breakfast. The Inn was very clean and I recommend it without a hesitation. Once again, I saw no skeleton keys.
