Do NOT stay in an upstairs sleeping room
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/7/10
I was on a tight budget and the ground floor kitchenette rooms were all booked so I paid the weekly rate for a cheaper sleeping room on the 2nd floor of the main building. BIG mistake.
Everything is old, probably not updated in 30-40 years and the bathrooms are shared (2 for about 6 rooms). The room is sparse with only a TV, phone, chair, and desk, no alarm clock or anything else except for the bed. The ceiling fan was so wobbly and loud that I was scared to leave it on since it could fall off. With no air conditioning, I had to open the windows but it was still too hot in the summer heat. The open windows let the traffic noise (state highway just outside) in which was unbearable when trying to sleep. The rooms were also awkward since other patrons had their doors open and shirts off for ventilation. The only good things are convenient location, friendly front desk woman, the numerous cable channels (more than most hotels), and free, fast wireless internet. Everything was clean enough considering the price of the motel. However, because of the heat and road noise on top of the other things, I checked out after one night despite them not giving me a refund for the rest of the nights. It just wasn't worth not being able to get a decent night's sleep. Since the room was so cheap, I might've tolerated it if it was winter since I would be able to turn on the heat and keep the windows closed.
If you stay in a kitchenette, room, you'll probably have fewer issues since there is air conditioning, private bathrooms, and other amenities. However, avoid the sleeper rooms at all costs, you can stay at a hotel that's 10x better for only 2x the cost.
