I hated staying here. The room was very dirty. It is a very old house, the service was very bad.

GREAT VALUE, CHARACTER, STYLE!
By Debbie, 05/27/08
MY BOYFRIEND AND TRAVEL AROUND THE WORLD AND STAY IN GREAT HOTELS AND INNS. We found the Banister Mansion a very personable and intimate experience! Great hospitality from the innkeeper and very informative about all secrets and bargains of Newport. Our bedroom a private bathroom, fireplace, fresh flowers, the wooden wide plank floors, great artwork and decor. Our particular had arefrigerator and microwave which we had previously requested. As part of the sailing package we sailed in a 72' schooner in Narragansett bay at sunset. It was an experience we will always cherished. We like so much we decide to get engaged at the Banister Mansion.

VERY ROMANTIC W. FIREPLACE EXPERIENCE!
By Euro, 05/27/08
We just spent 2 weeks at John Banister Mansion. We had a queen size 4 poster bed. We had the fireplace on making it cosy and romantic. The bedroom was nicely decorated with antiques and fine artwork. There fresh flowers and beautifull views of Historical Hill. The linens were Ralph Lauren and were very clean and changed everyday. It is located a few steps from Banister Wharf and Thames st, the historical center of Newport. WE found the entire experience at this inn very relaxing, enjoyable and highly recommended for couples. We found the staff very friendly and always ready to help in all our requests.

THIS A BEAUTIFULL RESTORED MANSION,WITH GREAT SERVICE,BEAUTIFULL ANTIQUES, GREAT LINENS,PRIVATE TILE BATHROOM IN THE ROOM, WOOD WORKING FIREPLACE,GREAT ART WORK IN BEDROOM AND HALLWAYS,EXOTIC ENCLOSED GARDENS! WE JUST STAY THIS MEMORIAL WEEKEND 5/24-25/2008 AND GOT A SAILING PACKAGE IN A 72' SCHOONER IN NARRAGANSETT BAY. THE HOST WAS VERY COURTEOUS AND INFORMATIVE. WE WOULD HIGHLY RECOMMEND TO ANYONE WHO LOVES HISTORICAL HOMES, GREAT LOCATION AND A GREAT PRICE TO STAY AT THE JOHN BANISTER MANSION.

Cheap House, perfect location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/28/06
My husband and I stayed here the weekend of August 25-26, 2006. This house is NOTHING to write home about, BUT WHAT A DEAL! We paid $100 a night and were located in the middle of everything in Newport, RI. The house is on the corner of Pelham and Spring if you want to mapquest it. This place was cheaper than Motel 6, Best Western, etc. and the hotel was of the same quality. We were there for a friend's wedding, so we knew we weren't going to be in the room but to sleep. I wouldn't recommend it for a romantic weekend in Newport or for the 30+ group that has aged out of the cheap hotel age. The sheets and house were clean, the owner is INCREDIBLY nice, but the paint is peeling off the walls. No biggie to me, well not for what I was paying for. Parking for 1 car is included. We had a bathroom in our room. There is no breakfast served, but Thames St. is 1 block away. So close and easy my grandma could do it! Looking for a GREAT deal, an older clean, but worn accomodations? This is the place for you!!!

Great history but not cleaned since!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/06
Dirty, hot, not maintained !! I felt like I slept in the same bed as General Prescott !!No not just he same bed , but the same matress, sheets and blankets. Nice if your a history buff but not nice if you want to feel clean. We were not allowed to use the front door which is street level . We had to use the back door which was 1 floor up ! This place is a disgrace among a group of nicely kept historic sites in the same neiborhood .
