The pros and cons of our visit
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/12/08
We stayed at the hotel in mid-October 2008. The hotel is sharply decorated in antique furniture with upgrades throughout the first floor and our room. The food is quite good with a varied menu of beef and seafood options. the price, however, is someone of a premium. Restaurant service is quite good. Despite all this we will not be back. Our room at night shot out cold air the entire night. The thermostat for the room did not work and there was no way to block the cold air from coming out of the vents. I see no reason why air conditioning should target the ~55 in mid-October at night. Do we expect a heat wave here? There was also no one at the front desk to take this up with at night nor was there a working thermostat on the floor in the hallways. As it stood one of my kids woke up with a hacking cough and my night was stressful dealing with the cold air. The complementary breakfast in the am was good. If you stay ask for a room that has guaranteed room settings otherwise move on.

Wonderful place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/2/08
I absolutely loved the dining area. The tin ceilings were beautiful. We were told that the American House had acquired a new chef. We had the opportunity to speak with him. I told him my expectations and was pleasantly surprised with our meal. We liked the decor of the bedroom and the private bath was wonderful. Will definately visit The American House again.

All-around excellent experience!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/31/08
The atmosphere is fantastic! Really takes you back to a different era. The rooms are very beautiful and reasonably priced. The bed was one of the most comfortable I've ever slept on, I would have slept all day if possible!! Many special touches in the bathroom would pleasantly surprise any female guests, including a heater in the ceiling to keep you warm getting in and out of the tub. The food is also wonderful. I have enjoyed breakfast, lunch, and dinner in the restaurant and can say that all were superb, portions were just right, and the food was a great value. My experience was terrific, I can't wait to go back - would recommend to anyone!!!

Hotel Rooms a Charm
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/15/08
Newly renovated rooms are very clean. Hardwood floors in the rooms, wow!, and tile bathrooms with old time pedestal sinks and cast iron tubs and showers. The beds are old time styles, sleigh beds, wood carved beds and metal beds with pillowtop mattresses made for an excellant nights sleep and a romantic night that won't be forgotten.

Breakfast Treat
By Mark Messier, 1/13/07
Not your typical morning breakast in NE Pa. Menu is diverse - Food plentiful - Reasonable price - Presentation unique - Clean and pleasant relaxing environment - Terrific Service - Not your typical breakfast - Everything you would find in a classy restaurant without the high prices.... A truly enjoyable experience..

The food was Excellent and the presentation the best I have ever experienced. Would recommend this to anyone who wants a fine dining experience, with real linens. The decor was great, and beautiful Tin Ceilings.
