What a sad disappointment....
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/09
This was always my favorite restaurant. Last visit was dismal. The outside was rundown and cheap looking with mismatched plastic chairs. Our meal was horrible. Our raw bar shrimp was dry and our shrimp lejon tasted strange. Our steaks were terrible, bad cheap cuts of flavorless meat served with uncooked carrots. The hostess and waitresses were loud and unprofessional during our dinner. it's sad to see this once fantastic restaurant turn into such a mediocre, even poor restaurant.

Pace One does Right!
By 000, 3/3/09
Now this is what I call a bartender! We have eaten at Pace before and found that the bartender was very stand-offish and totally luke warm to us. After about a year we have come back and found a different young man working. I can't recall his name, but he was a big, healthy, broad shouldered young man with a light beard. Totally blew us away, very cheerful, knowledgeable and just and all around likeable guy. He totally made our evening and made us feel right at home even with "regular" customers sitting there. The service at the bar was impeccable and he had very nice wine and appetizer recommadations for us. The Potato Crustini was excellent along with the Calamari. We totally enjoyed our visit and can't wait to come back. What a perfect Thursday night hot spot!

Lackluster
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/4/08
The food for the most part was tasty. Service was a tad slow: staff seemed unenthusiastic. No umbrellas for out door dining ( lost in a storm- not yet replaced). Dead bugs on top of night lighting-does any one care! Seems on the brink of closing. Shame : a cute place. Overpriced.

No Longer on My Short List
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/26/08
I used to love going to Pace One for special occassions and date nights. The food was always excellent and the service was very good. My last few visits have been an utter let down. The food is mediocre at best and service has gone down hill. On our last visit the place was almost empty, yet our apps took more than half an hour to arrive. Drink glasses were left sitting empty on the table while our waitress disappeared to quarters unseen. Perhaps she was busy studying for a history or math exam as I would estimate her to be barely sixteen years old. After another inexplicably lengthy interval, our dinner entrees arrived. While my steak was done to med-rare perfection, my fiance's scallops were dry, chewey and way over-cooked. She returned them to the kitchen-- something I've never seen her do before in any establishment-- then refused any further food. She was pretty disgusted with everything at that point. We are saddened to see that Pace One has let their previously high standards slip to something so sub-par. If it were a one time thing, you could say it was an "off night for the kitchen", but several bad experiences add up to something more than a coincidence. Something has changed at Pace One and it's truly a shame.

Planning our next trip!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/07
I was impressed with the setting; it's just breathtaking..Not to mention the food. Everything we ordered was delicious, especially the Grilled Steak. Surely a place to visit if you're in Brandywine.

Very nice dinner
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/20/06
My wife and I went for her birthday. We both got the house salad, it was fine. Bread and homemade butter was so good I asked for two plates. Kitchen seemed slow, but when her Filet Mignon and my Veal arrived it was excellent. Coffee was great, topped off with chocolate cake for her and delicious cheesecake for me. Nice place, we come back a few times a year.

NEW MENU - GREAT SERVICE
By steve, 8/14/06
Pace One Restaurant is a relaxed, soothing restaurant that allows the customer to enjoy wonderful drinks and entrees. My wife and I dined there last week, and were pleasantly surprised to find out a NEW MENU has been introduced. Entrees are just as delicious with more of a variety. The new Manager, I believe her name is Barbara, is wonderfully pleasant and takes care of her guests. Ted Pace, owner, will likely be found sitting at the corner bar with his locals at the bar. Matt the bartender is bland, but you must get to know him more and Bret is not the greatest bartender if I must admit. From the kitchen to bus boy - I thank you all for a great dining experience and will return in less than a month!!

A perfect evening!
By Chris, 4/23/06
OK - I think these other people were at the wrong restuarant. The bread is baked in-house. It is pumpernickel, not rye. and it is superb. The sweet butter is a little cheesy, but it is nothing like cream cheese! what a rediculous comment! I know people who travel from delaware to Pace One JUST for the pumpernickel and house-churned butter! The baked brie is my favorite appetizer and i order it with extra sauce because it is so yummy! I dine at Pace One often, about once a month. I was there last night and had ostrich. It was EXCELLENT! I've also had the crab cakes, rack of lamb, filet mignon, and salmon: all delicious. The restaurant is actually an old inn, very romantic. Not "Hip/Trendy" at all! It has a very old farmhouse feel and food is traditional american. I am so shocked that anyone would say that "Ethiopians would rather die than eat such garbage." I would strongly advise that you consider what type of person would say such a thing and what their motive could have been before you give his revuen any weight. One last note: get the warm fruit cobbler thingy for dessert. It's fabulous! Go to Pace One and see for yourself.
