Sprague's Kinderhook Lodge, Barry

I had my wedding at Sprague's Lodge. It was indoor and outdoor so the guests got to experience the entire atmosphere it offers. We rented the whole place out for the weekend so our guests got to stay with us!! I went through dozens of wedding magazines looking for the perfect setting and I found it at Sprague's. It has beauty and class but with a quaint coziness. I got exactly what I wanted! It was over a year ago and I still get compliments!!

The Kinderhook Lodge is beautiful, full of character and an excellent place to stay! The communities of Barry/Kinderhook are quaint, quiet little towns; not far from the Mark Twain tourist area of Hannibal, MO. What a wonderful location to get away from the hustle and bustle of everyday life. It is not uncommon to see deer grazing in the fields around the Lodge; while I was there at dinner I counted five at one time! The Kinderhook Lodge is a peaceful retreat from a hectic everyday life.

Sprague's Lodge is the BEST! I've been going there for quilt retreats for several years. The 'Castle' is very high end - with beautiful suite like rooms. Gathering rooms for large groups and small. The historic old house includes dorm style rooms and a wonderful dining facility. Food is great, simply great. Andy and Pat are wonderful, friendly and enthusiastic hosts who remember, and cheerfully accomodate, guest preferences - special diets, physical restrictions, whatever. I look forward to my semi-annual trip to the lodge where I can hear crickets and see hawks soaring over the river bluffs. My favorite pastime is counting the deer in the nearby fields... No matter if you are going for a craft retreat, hunting trip, or work-oriented team building - this is a GREAT place to go. Located ten minutes from downtown Hannibal, and twenty from Quincy, Ill.

I happened upon a listing for this lodge while searching the web for places to stay near Barry, IL. It turns out to be one of the luckiest discoveries that I have made. In many years of travel, I don't recall ever finding a place quite as nice as this. Much of the lodge is brand new, with every imaginable convenience - no expense was spared in furnishing and equipping the rooms, and the setting couldn't be better. There are great views in every direction, and the grounds are very nicely landscaped. The decks offer great places for watching (and in my case, photographing) birds, deer, and other wildlife. It is located only a few minutes from the town of Barry, which puts it just a little over an hour away from Springfield, and less than a half hour from Hannibal, MO. There is a great deal of history in this part of the country, and I can't think of a better way to explore it than to use this great lodge as a base for various excursions. And finally, the feature that really puts it all over is the service. Andy Sprague is an outstanding host - very congenial and detail oriented. He obviously takes great pride in his establishment, and while he still considers the lodge to be a work in progress, it has far surpassed others which have been established for years. My family plans to make Sprague's Kinderhook Lodge a regular stop on our future trips to Pike County.
