The National Conference Center, Leesburg

I've been at the National Conference Center in Lansdowne, VA twice over the past 5 months. The first experience was wonderful...the food service was fantastic, the staff was great, the suite was very comfortable. During our second visit, the food service was still wonderful. But, that's where we stopped. This time our suite was on 5th floor...directly above their open bar (meaning this bar is in the open, no walls, no ceiling separating it from the other floors, nothing. The clouds of smoke that would come up from the bar were horrid. And the music was SO loud that I don't think it could have been any louder if we were IN a bar. We travelled with our autistic three year old who didn't sleep the entire week because until one o'clock in the morning each and every night, the music would be playing loud enough to rattle glasses in our room. Instead of this classy conference center we saw the first time, this time around it seemed like we were suddenly just plopped in the middle of an out of control night club and told to work on our laptops and sleep right there. Impossible. We made over four phone calls to get this rectified while we were at the conference center, even asking for our room to be switched, and nobody was receptive. Why not give the room to someone who's already in the bar--they wouldn't mind the clouds of smoke outside the room door or the deafening high-decible club music at all hours of the night. At almost $200 a night, I expected better. I could go to a night club for far less than that...I don't choose to take my family to sleep in one.
