Best Family Reunion Yet
By Linda, 7/12/10
"My family of 42 stayed at the Mountain Home recently in June 2010. The property was especially geared for a group of our size or larger. Mountain Home's floorplan is set up ideally with bedrooms in blocks, so we could put family groups in the appropriate areas (such as those with babies away from the pool table/hot tub areas) The location of Mountain Home was convenient to hiking, biking, the lake and activities we took part in including the Renaissance Fair, Miniature Golf, shopping. And speaking of shopping it was located less than one mile from a grocery store, drug store and coffee house, so if we ever needed any item it was just a 15 minute roundtrip back to Mountain Home. Even though the property is located near shopping it is also on the route up towards Emerald Bay and had the woodsy feel. The property was clean and organized. We used only the beds available in the bedrooms and did not need to use the futons in the common areas, but they were especially nice to relax in and maybe catch a wink or two while watching a movie. The website photos of Mountain Home were very accurate and we we only surprised by the large size of the rooms and property. Mountain Home has all the amenities to provide entertainment at their location. We played volleyball, badminton, horseshoes, kayaking and pool as provided for as well as lots of use in the hot tub. The owners provided 2 firepits for us to use on the patio in the evenings as well as 2 BBQs. There was an abundance of seating available both inside and out. We only encountered one issue with a broken washing machine which was handled almost immediately by the maintenance person Efrain. We can't speak more highly than of the service we received from Rebecca and Efrain. If there was anything that came up or we needed they were there in no time and or called back immediately. We would definitely recommend this property for any other groups, whether you are a family or not. Everyone in the family agreed this was the best reunion yet and the best part was we got to spend a lot of time together and didn't have to leave the property to find things to do. We look forward to returning in 2012.

Never again
By Lee, 4/17/09
We rented the Mountain Home for a church retreat and mold made everyone sick. The accomidations were cheap and not very well kept. The owners were unresponsive to our request once they were paid. Very bad experience for something the kids were so looking forward to.

Great Place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/23/07
My group and I had an amazing time in Tahoe and staying at the Manzanita. Whoever wrote that last review obviously didn't do their homework. I chose the Manzanita for our group and it was NEVER portrayed as a resort, it's a vacation rental that is all yours. It is very clean, very spacious, very practical and extremely affordable. You think it's expensive? try booking 25 fleabag, dirty motel rooms at 120/night in the summer in tahoe! Anyway, our group had a great time, the kitchen had everything we needed (its huge!), Admittedly, the futons aren't the most comfortable and without AC it can get a little muggy at night, but c'mon! this place is amazing and the staff is very nice and of course they don't clean your room every day its a vacation rental, not a hotel. With very few exceptions, we were totally satisfied with the Manzanita Lodge.

Cheap Motel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/3/07
The Manzanita Motel is just that CHEAP. The towels are cheap, the furniture is cheap the bedding is worse than cheap, and the "cozy futons" are the ones that sell at K-Mart for $99. If they represented themselves as a semi-clean, cheap place to sleep that would be acceptable. However, they pretend to be some type of resort lodge and charge accordingly. I was part of a group and did not want to hurt the hosts feelings. Had I been alone, I would have checked out after my first night. My family of five, had 4 towels to last the week. I called the management company to request a few more towels. The snotty property management lady informed me that our host had been informed there would be no maid service, no linen replacement, and NO towel exchange. She said it was "not her problem" we had five people in our room. So much for customer service. Also, the "huge" kitchen is a joke. It had no workable preparation space and was minimally stocked with pans and utensils. We ended up eating out most nights. If you are a group, I would strongly recommend you go inspect the site yourself. Our host booked over the internet and many people in our group were disappointed. IMPORTANT: There is NO AIR CONDITIONING. The week we were there the tempature was quite warm in the day and balmy at night. Sweaty nights sleep on a cheap mattress with fuzz ball sheets.
