Would probably stay there again
By anon., 06/18/09
It was in a good location - convenient to the trolley and Fisherman's Wharf. Our room was in the back facing an alley - not much of a view but it was very quiet at night. We got one of the small refrigerators for $5/night. It would keep cutting off so on the 2nd day we complained. They replaced it with another one and gave us credit for 2 days charge. Of the 5 days we were there the internet was off one day. There was a washateria a block down and over, which we used once. Within walking distance was a Denny's, IHOP, and Pat's Cafe serving breakfast. It was very convenient to have the free parking. The beds weren't too bad. We made several walking trips down to a Safeway-Walgreens for snacks because the hotel only has an ice machine and coke machine. We didn't find the good value in room rates that others mentioned...maybe it was because we were there in June. Hotel rates in San Francisco, though, are expensive as a rule.

Little Gem
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/01/08
This motor inn was a pleasant surprise. It has been updated and is clean. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The motel is located within walking distance of many attractions. Despite being on a busy street, it was rather quiet.

Great place!! Easy to get to other locations.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/30/07
Location was perfect. Bus stop right at door with a direct route thru North Beach, Chinatown to downtown for connection to BART. The wharf, Pier 39 and other attractions were within walking distance.Cable car was a block away. Spent two weeks Dec 2007 and plan to return soon.

Great location!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/31/07
I've been staying here every visit to SF since 1992. It is in the same neighborhood as my former apartment which makes it feel like home. Always spotlessly clean, good smelling, love the balcony rooms overlooking Columbus Ave. I have stayed at its sister properties, the Chelsea and the Cow Hollow on Lombard and have found them equally comfortable although I do prefer the wharf/North Beach neighborhood of the Columbus. And I love the feeling of bare feet sinking into the thick plushness of that blue carpet! Excellent firm mattresses for my poor back. Wonderfully efficient yet friendly service. It's great!

Don't hesitate to stay here
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/14/07
We just had a very nice stay here at the Columbus Motor Inn. It exceeded our expectations. I can't overstate how clean the facility is. The staff was very pleasant and easy to deal with. The information and advice they provided was reliable and better than average. We felt very safe in this hotel, and this area. It was a very convenient location, and was easy to access local transportation. I cannot think of a single negative aspect of this hotel. On our trip to California, this was the very best hotel experience that we had. The price is hard to believe , and an excellent value. You can stay at The Columbus Motor Inn with no hesitation. North Carolina tourist May 2007

Excellent location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/15/07
For the price of this hotel and the location, it was a steal! It was within walking distance to the Pier, and Little Italy. Couldn't have asked for a better location. It was relatively clean - my only complaint was that the carpet and the couch in our room were a bit worn and old looking. The staff was very accommodating and friendly with the exception of one cleaning person who was downright rude to us the day we were checking out. We met with her in the elevator and she apparently wasn't having a good day and decided to take it out on us! Other than that, the rest of the staff were very nice.
