Good for intern
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/15/08
The hotel is on the cable car line with bus lines in all directions a block away which makes it easy to go financial district for my intern. Need food, Cala Foods and Whole Foods nearby and the post office is on the corner. The rooms are clean. The day manager is helpful with information and WiFi in the Lobby. Special mention to the day manager, he is very friendly, helpfull, and nice. The building is real quiet at night and the other guests are all friendly. I enjoyed my stay and I hope to stay there again on my next year intern.

new york resident
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 03/27/08
The best part of this hotel is the location. Lots of shops, post office around corner, Whole Foods, good bars. The staff was friendly, wifi in the lobby and laundromats. I paid $350 a week. Definitely would return on next business trip. Most of the other guests I met were business travelers.

The hotel is on the cable car line with bus lines in all directions a block away. They have Cala Foods and Whole Foods nearby and the post office is on the corner. The rooms are clean with older furniture. The office is helpful and they will help out with WiFi in the Lobby. Special mention to the maid- she is evry friendly and nice. The building is real quiet at night and the other guests are all friendly. I enjoyed my stay.

Nice and Pleasant
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/19/07
The lobby is very comfortable and has WiFi. The staff are friendly especially the resident manager. He was helpful on mnore than one occassion. The rooms are clean and decently priced. About $50. per day. They have two laundromats in the building and each room has a frig and microwave. The neighborhood is safe andf two blocks from Whole Foods.

you can do better
By Elise, 09/22/07
this place advertises rooms at $290/week, however, they never have any of these rooms available. i suspect they have just one, so they can advertise that rate. since you can't reserve a specific room at a specific price before you get there, you have to take what's available, usually a $400/week room. $110 difference/week is quite a difference when you're on a budget and not expecting it. sometimes they quote a price of $340, sometimes $360, sometimes $400 and sometimes $420. sometimes they require a deposit to hold a room, sometimes they don't. they seem to make it up as they go along. the shared bath rooms are in the basement which is dank and depressing. the night manager is rude and unhelpful. any questions you might have get the response "i don't know you'll have to ask the day manager". this guy lives in the hotel, sits up in his room all day and is really put out if you need him for anything. every room is different. most are complete shitholes, though they do have some "remodeled" rooms. those of course, are more expensive. some don't even have closets. there are no bath tubs, and the "cable" tv is basically your local channels, 15 or so spanish language, religious or shopping channels and tnt. they don't even have cnn. there aren't any smoking rooms, but they don't tell you that until after you've prepaid and checked in. the wireless is only in the lobby and if more than 2 people are using it, then it crawls at a snails pace. in addition, people live in this hotel full time. one elderly gentleman in particular likes to sit in the lobby all day and expects anyone using the wireless to talk to him. other occupants tend to be foreign couples that like to slam doors and yell at each other in the middle of the night. quite a few rooms face into a courtyard that serves as a place to store equipment and trash. i don't know if there's a restaurant or bar that also shares that courtyard, but there is the sound of crashing dishes and banging coming from there all day. it's a horrible place. if you have the misfortune to stay here, bring your own pillows and blankets because the ones they provide are cheap and thin. the only good thing i can say is that it's clean as a whistle. just certainly not worth the money. oh, and if you decide to stay longer than 4 weeks, you have to sign a lease and pay your own utilities and don't get the weekly maid service.

Affordable heart-of-SF wkly/monthly lodging!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/06
I can strongly recommend room #402, where I'm writing this review while looking out my top-floor bay window at the cable cars traveling up and down California Street by night. Earlier I watched a beautiful sunset from my west-facing windows. The CCC rents by the week or month, and each room is a little different. Mine happens to have a wall of closets, shelves, and drawers, which is particularly helpful to organize all my books and papers since I'm also working while here. All the rooms have a microwave and fridge and private bath (a shower, toilet and sink--nothing fancy, but clean and decent). Some have a stove w/two burners. There's free wireless in the lobby. Cala Foods supermarket is one block away and the fabulous Whole Foods is about four blocks away. Lots of shops & eats a block away on Polk Street. You can have phone service (and dial-up access) in your room for just 75 cents a call and no extra charge to install it or disconnect it. You can reserve a room ahead, but they don't assign you a specific room till you arrive, so you have to take what's available when you get there, though they're happy to let you change later as other rooms open up. If you get to choose, I'd ask for a room with a view of the street (California Street, if you want to see the cable cars), and as high up as possible to get the primo city views. Rooms that look out on a light well are cheaper, but not worth it in my opinion.
