Damascus Old Mill Inn, Damascus

Steak you can slice with a butter knife, do yourself a favor and dine tonight. We've returned three times. Our server, Amie, is the best show in the house. Request her. Deb Taylor really has outdone herself in the kitchen. Old Mill is all brand new. Highly recommend it.

I had the chance to visit here from Nova Scotia, Canada to celebrate a wedding. The ceremony as well as our stay was hosted by Betty and her staff at the Old Mill. We had an amazing weekend. The rooms were beautifully decorated, the food was delicious and the service was top-notch. Betty and her staff did all they could to make the weekend and the wedding run smoothly. Hope to get back and stay again. A definite check mark in my travel guide!!

We were in Damascus, but we were treated like we were staying at the Waldorf in NYC. The staff, headed by Betty, did everything possible to make our stay the best possible. The room was comfortable, clean and had an amazing view of the river and water falls. The price was more than fair and food was wonderful. Old Mill is a "must stay" place if you're ever even close to Damascus

Where to begin? I guess check-in would be the best place. We were charged more than we were quoted for our stay. We tried to order lunch, but didn't have much luck. They were out of fries, sirlion, chicken salad, and draft beer. The french toast that they brought was made from the end pieces of the bread and the sausage links were tough. The service was slow at best. We had to go to the bar to get our drinks refilled. We had to go find salt and pepper ourselves (waiter never brought it after we asked for it). Ranch dressing that was requested was never brought. Overall very unpleasant experience. When we turned down our bed for the night, we found the sheets covered in hair. I am not talking one or two hairs, but more like 15 to 20 hairs. All the manager ever offered for any of our troubles was "I am sorry". Building and scenery is beautiful, but management needs some improvement.

The atmosphere is wonderful. If only the food was as good. My husband and I visited The Old Mill in the spring of last year and had not been there since. At that time the food was very good. We visited again this past weekend and found the food to be of poor quality. Steak was tough and overcooked. Salmon was even tougher. Potatoes tasted as if they had been microwaved. Hard as a rock and cold. Would not consider going back unless changes are made.

My cousin came to visit from Las Vegas for a week. We took her over to Asheville, NC and all over east TN. We had never been to Damascus, VA and were prompted to go there after reading an article about the Old Mill Inn Restaurant in the Johnson City, TN newspaper. We took the back road around Lake Holston to Abingdon, VA and then US 58 to Damascus. The drive was beautiful and the Old Mill made for a great day. The lunch and service were excellent. I had Mouk's Salad (large house salad, fried chicken strips, fried okra with a horseradish ranch dressing. Super!!!) The bar is made from a section of the old water wheel and the top of beautiful finished wood patterns. The manager offered us a key to one of the rooms. We took the elevator up to the 3rd floor to a beautiful room with a private balcony overlooking the small lake and spillway. Fantastic! We are looking forward to going back and spend an evening, have dinner and enjoy the accommodations of the Inn.

The building is beautiful and the location overlooking the river and dam is just out of this world! Peaceful is the setting for a very relaxed and enjoyable evening of fine dining in a quaint little town. Food is excellent....service great, can't wait to go back! Wine and Beer is offered but cocktails would be super!
