My husband and I traveled from Indiana to Alabama for work and acquired a room at Charles Hotel and when my husband's employer refused to give us an advance in pay so we could purchase another night they refused to work with us. I offered them my I.D. and my expensive watch to hold until he was paid and they at first agreed but changed their minds within an hour and threw me out on the hot streets ALONE. I will never again stay in one of these hotels. It was filthy and they treated me like yesterdays trash.
The man working the door, (who is also the owner), takes his good sweet time to answer the phone - no matter what time of the day or night it happens to be. He also takes forever to answer the door, as you're ringing the door bell waiting to check in. You're standing there, waiting, and about to fall asleep, until he finally shows up at the desk in his underpants and dirty tee. He tells you the check-in is at five am, but conveniently doesn't have any rooms available until afternoon, each and every time. The money isn't worth the bad quality of the rooms, and the bad customer service! Nothing is worth going through this for a "good nights sleep". Nothing.
