The Skyview Motel, Los Alamos

My wife and I just drove up because we have stayed here several times in the past 5 years and the Skyview is a great place to stay. Our kids like it too. But, we drove through and the place is all overgrown with weeds, no cars, half the lighted signs don't work... it looks like the maintenance crew abandoned the place... What's up Skyview? I tried to leave a message on their website, but the website doesn't allow you to leave messages. I wonder how those comments got on there from other guests?

Under new management. Nice quiet quaint motel. Solvang was completely booked this was the closest available motel. What a pleasant surprise. Very clean. Everyone was was extremely nice. Great rec room for games and breakfast. If you need a clean quiet place to rest your head this is the place.

The Skyview Motel was a disaster. The management was not at all welcoming. We rented several rooms recently and felt like we were constantly being stalked by the "manager" on duty. Every time we turned around, we were told to be quiet, go back to our rooms, etc. The decor was atrocious, the rooms looked like they had not been cleaned in five years, and there were mice scratching in the walls. Do Not Stay Here! For a good night sleep, try Buellton or Santa Maria.

I had read some of the previous reviews, those that mentioned the management were right on. Obviously the knucklehead that is "manager" is in his first postion of authority. All we heard from his was to quiet down or he was going to call the sheriff. It wasn't like there was a lot of commotion, just a few of the guests hanging out in the front of their rooms talking. Rooms are cleaned every other day, no amenities, and definitely not a cozy, quaint, little place. With so many options just a short ride up or down the highway, there is no reason to stop here. There are no blankets in the room, the TV gets about 8 total channels, mice ran rampant around the room......not a great experience. Find somewhere else to stay!

We came up to have a nice weekend, ride bikes, and eat at the Flatbread in town. Have been there several times, and coming back in August. Great place! You have to see it for yourself. Great people.

What a wonderful, quaint place!! Old west charm takes you away from the rat race. Managers Randy & Gail go the extra mile to make sure you have all that you need. We were a large motorcycle club and they welcomed us with open arms!! The rooms are clean and very comfortable. The decor is a very pleasant surprise! The ceilings, the furniture, the artwork in and out of the motel....you just have to see it! There's also a large meeting center/rec room/eating area-also very comfortable with great views. The pool hadn't opened for the summer yet, but that was also clean and pleasing to see! This is a great place for family reunions, clubs, most large get-togethers or just to get away for some peace and quiet in a little oasis on top of a hill in the desert!! Based on my brief (but extremely negative) experience at this place, I would never even come close to recommending anyone stay at the Skyview Motel. Specifically, I was driving up to San Luis Obispo (SLO) on a business trip for the DoD when my car overheated on the 101 near Los Alamos. It was about 10:30 pm on a Wednesday night, so when I saw the Skyview Motel’s bright sign on the top of a nearby hill, I decided to pull in and get a room for the night. Unfortunately, there were "No Vacancy" signs everywhere, so I called AAA for a tow truck instead. I thought about knocking on the office door and asking for some help, but I didn't want to bother anyone. Apparently, I failed miserably in this area, because while I was on the cell phone in the parking lot with AAA, someone came out of the office and started yelling at me. He said I was on private property and had to leave immediately. When I explained that my car was broken down and I was trying to get a tow truck, he said he didn't care and I should go talk on my cell phone somewhere else. The AAA customer service rep heard him in the background and said she couldn't believe he was doing that. I was kind of shocked as well, but I didn't see any point in arguing, so I pushed my car out of the parking lot and down the hill to the road below. The AAA tow truck showed up about 15 minutes later and took me in to the closest civilized town (Santa Maria), so everything turned out OK. However, the next time I have to drive up to SLO, I'm definitely going to rush through Los Alamos as quickly as possible, and I would highly recommend everyone else do the same. That place (particularly the Skyview Motel) is way too creepy for my taste. It totally reminded me of “The Bates Motel” from the movie Psycho.

I happened to be staying at the Skyview when the wedding people were there. They were loud and unruly and the motel management could not quiet them down. The police had to be called out because the rest of us, who were not with the group, could not sleep. I have stayed there more than once and I really like the place. They take great care of us because we use common sense and have respect for others...

After reading the reviews, I really wasn't sure what to expect, however, knowing my friend(who chose this place to celebrate her 50th birthday)has good taste, I decided to join the others and book a room. We had a wonderful time. The room was clean & charming, relaxing by the pool was heaven, and the clubhouse was done up so nicely we didn't bother to decorate. I am in the process of planning a family get together there in the near future and the management have been very friendly and helpful.

This place ought to be reported to the Better Business Bureau!!!! Request extra blankets, pillows, towels...........EXPECT a 2 hour wait and then be treated rudely for your request!!!!!! Hang out in the Club House during regular hours..........EXPECT to have the fireplace and TV turned off and to turn around and have no knife and butter for your muffin!!!!! Relax by the pool and EXPECT to be asked to leave!!!!! Ask for an iron and EXPECT a run-around!!!!!!!!!! EXPECT the room phone not to work!!!!! Try to take a shower and EXPECT to have the nozzle fall out into your hands!!!!!! EXPECT to be treated like children by the maintence man even if you are 50!!!!!!!!
