This place is on the verge of collapse. Be sure to visit in the Spring or the Autumn since there really is no effective heating or air conditioning in the rooms. Better yet, bring your tent and camp outside -- it is much cheaper.
Really enjoyed the desert local's over 40 mature men hospitality there. Made a lot of new friends and really enjoyed my visit. Place was very clean, and has the best lounge for snacks and refereshments.
Overpriced for the dingy, creepy, depressing rooms. Trolls follow you around incessantly, not getting the message that you don't want their Nursing Home STD's. I feel tricked, by getting a room there. Definitely one of my worst experiences ever. I would give it Zero stars in every category.
Actually I was impressed by the amenities. The facilities are clean. The staff is nice. There is a long, spacious "nature" walk filled with brooks and plants: something not found in other resorts. There is lot of "activities" for those who are seeking for action. Steam Sauna. Dungeon. Garden
The dry sauna was malfunctional when we visited July 2006.
The guests should understand two things: the clientelle is mostly catering to bear/troll (i.e. people above 40). This was a complete turn-off for my friend who was seeking younger "meat" but of course will be a plus for those who seek bears. Even the day pass guests are mostly around this age. I have never seen anybody who looks below 35 yrs. old. My frriend facteiuously commented that he thought it was a senior citizen center :)
The location is in Cathedral City, and so one should be driving 20 minutes to see the main Palm Canyon/Indian Canyon strip where all the malls and restuarants are, and the Arenas road gay district. If you need to be near these areas, find a resort at Palm Springs, not Cathedral City.
The price is good if your looking for affordable, however the clientel is very old to bear types. If your looking for younger guys meaning age 35 or below it isn't here. I didn't fell comfortable taking off my speedo so it was left on. There are alot of senior citizen men that frequent the place probably since they live close to it and tend to follow you around alot. Not a place I would stay at for fun.
The property itself is very good -- spacious, open, varied, nicely landscaped, scenic. The rooms are functional but not fancy or elegant. The kitchens are old and under-equipped. Most of the staff are helpful and capable; the manager seems to be cultivating a "grumpy old men" reputation. The WiFi is spotty, but if you're determined, you can generally find a place it will work.
Day passes draw a lot of regulars -- mostly retired men, which gives the place a certain sense of community, though would not be to the taste of someone looking for a younger (below 50) crowd. Management seems to try hard at some things (special events, contests, etc.) but not at others (breakfasts are all-carbs; lunch -- offered only on Wednesday -- is inedible; coffee is stale; day lockers are battered and broken).
Cleanliness is uneven -- most areas are fine; the pool and spas are good; the cruising rooms can be pretty sticky and frightening. Consciousness about safe sex seems minimal -- no condoms or lube are available in the public areas.
A car is pretty much essential unless you could stand to eat at the local places all the time. There are plenty of good restaurants and grocery stores within a few miles.
In general, I've had a good time when I've been there -- most of the guys are pleasant, and there are lots of opportunities for fun.
With a bit of determination on the part of management (and not even much money), the place could be great.
