Oceanfront, yay. The rest...not so much.
By Stephanie, 2/20/12
My husband & I stayed over President's Day weekend for a belated Valentine's Day celebration. My in-laws were also here for the weekend, and they had a suite room, which was decidedly nicer than ours (our room did not even have a closet, a super small kitchen area, no plates, utensils, etc.). Both our room and my in-laws room had 2 double/queen beds - I'm assuming they were queen, but felt so small that my husband and I ended up sleeping in separate beds all three nights (the mattresses were not at all comfortable either). I'm still wondering if they even have rooms with king beds? When we arrived at around 7pm on Friday evening, we found that although the room was clean, etc., one of the beds was completely wet on the bottom half, from the comforter down through to the mattress. We did tell the front desk about this, and while very nice, the gentleman said it was "proabably some kid who sat on the bed after being in the pool." Still haven't quite figured that one out - was the "kid" sitting on the bed before the room was cleaned or after? On a plus side, the ocean view was beautiful. I'm sure the lazy river would have been nice too, but it was not filled/operational during our stay. As Sunday was a lousy weather day, we spent most of the day inside and can definitely say that the WiFi connection is TERRIBLE. I have a brand new computer, and it still took several minutes to properly load the hotel's web page, for instance ;-) The housekeeper on floor 10 was very sweet and thorough! Beside the ocean view, she was the best thing about the hotel. I'm sure it's much better in the summer when you're not spending much time in the room and can enjoy the beach, pools, bar and lazy river. For a Valentine's Day getaway, never again!

Can't Wait to go Back!
By OneDayCPA, 2/9/10
I took my girlfriend to the beach as a surprise during the beach's off season. We called in advance and made a payment over the phone. Due to the off season we didn't have much trouble getting down on the beach, it was right behind the hotel! The staff was friendly and the rooms were clean. My only complaint would be the TV was only 720 instead of 1080, but who goes to the beach to just watch TV? We stayed on the 15th floor and could sleep with the balcony's doors open to sleep with the waves.

very disappointing
By Lea, 8/2/09
We called in january to schedule our visit in July. The hotel was notified in Jan that a room close to the ground and elevator was necessary due to a physical handicap. We were placed on the 15th floor and only 2 rooms were further away from the elevator than we were. We did not complain at this point because there were approx 30 families waiting to check in after us and we had already waited in line almost an hour to check in. When we arrived in the room, I called the desk and wsa informed to call the mgr the following day to discuss my complaints with him. They did not offer another room or any suggestions for my complaints. They will not allow anyone to check in before 4pm so everyone arrived at around the same time. (which meant there were no where near enough luggage carts and getting settled would take even longer.) Everyone was miserable and kids were running around or crying. The hallways smelled of stagnet cigarettes, the elevator smelled of cat urine and were extremely slow. The pictures on the hotel site do not look like the actual appearance of the pools which had no plants or flowers, no where near enough chairs, and the pool areas have holes in the ceiling and peeling paint. Our bathroom was dirty with hair stuck to the ceiling of the shower (thick black and curly and not ours) , the toilet overflowed with the first use. House keeping came to dry it with a towel, but brough no mop and didn't offer to sanitize. The tv's were fuzzy and the remotes did not work properly. No room service at night so if someone has to stay in the room with small children, you'll have to go out alone to get what you need. Our silverware was dirty upon arrival, but there is a sign stating we will be charged $50 if any dishes are left dirty. The hallways have old cigarette smell but we (as nonsmokers) were informed we would be charged $150 if caught smoking in our nonsmoking room. The ice is on one floor, pepsi on another and coke on yet another. This is just another inconvenience for guests, let alone a handicapped guest. I stayed here 2 years ago and was very disappointed this year by what I saw. Many guests were discussing their disappointment in the elevators and hallway, including one woman stating her money had been stolen while she was out of her room the day before. This was my first vacation with my fiance and i felt really bad as i had suggested this hotel and wanted it to be perfect. We will not be staying here again.

Great Hotel Here
By donald allred, 6/19/08
Must have updated rooms, mine had a 720p LCD Panasonic tv in it. Rooms were up to date and very clean. Service was great, did have to call for towels a couple of times, and elevators are too slow. Other than that it was a great deal. Best prices in Myrtle Beach.

tricky
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/27/07
I was tricked by bipolar staff into thinking I was getting a deal.....male staff chased me like they were in a college graduate's league....housekeepers and tired staff thought I was rich...begged for money. Lobby sterile. Elevator pokey. Nice proximity to restaurants, golf, night life.

Not impressed...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/27/07
This motel (not hotel) was on par with the quality of a ratty Day's Inn. The front desk was so-so (good luck if you have someone 21-25 in your party - what a huge ordeal!). Thankfully we weren't spending too much time in the room - carpet needed replacing, bathroom corners were dirty, and the beds were hard as a ROCK. Elevators were slow and did not always tell you if they were going up or down. Sidewalks are rolled up between 9 and 10 every night. I would recommend saving a few more dollars and getting a nicer place.

Stay Away if you want a nice vacation
By Kristy, 8/21/06
First of all, the location was wonderful. Loved the view. But that is all we can say was nice about the stay. The room was dirty, the maids were very rude when the only things we ask for the entire time was extra towels(considering we had 4 people in our room and two towels per day) and extra creamer for the coffee. The hallways were nasty and there was only 2 vending machines in the whole place. The lobby when we checked in was very nice, I guess the staff had to be comfortable but what about the guests? The lazy river was not a lazy river for they let children play in it and horseplay and you definitely did not relax. You could not even swim in the indoor pool because you choked on the smell of bleach. Which makes me wonder if that is why the rooms were so nasty, they used all their bleach in the pool. At check-out, we said we'd not stay again but decided to give it one more try a month later. The first time we were allowed to put the balance on a credit card the day before arriving but when we tried it the month later, when my mother decided to pay for me and my husband to enjoy a vacation away from the kids, we were told we could not do that. They did not try to help us at all. They told us to bring cash, but if my mother had that cash she wouldn't have been putting it on her credit card. They were very rude, so we cancelled our reservation 2 days before we were supposed to arrive. We found a much nicer place to stay with a very friendly staff. Guess they just lost a little more business!

I would NOT go back...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/30/06
The Sandcastle South is in desperate need of updating and renovations. The lobby and pool area are very nice but the rooms leave something to be desired. We had a regular room with two queen beds. The walls were hideous and the room was not particularly clean. We could not tell if the sheets were off white or just dingy. There was no coffee pot,no clock radio, no phone hooked up, and one very tiny trash can. They do not provide wake-up calls and there is ONE ice machine and it is on the 14th floor. I have stayed many places all over the east coast and have never(until now) been asked to put down a deposit to get a remote control for the TV. If you wanted more than one key, you also had to pay an extra deposit. They are also still using metal keys which I found unusual. I felt as if I was a teenager at Senior Week and they were afraid I was going to steal something. I would not recommend this hotel and will definitely not go back.

By Janice Hilbourn, 3/13/06
I loved this hotel! I have stayed there for the past three years! Always a laid back time, nice service, and nice rooms. I love the set up of the hotel and can always look forward to a great time. I have told others about you so that they can have the same great experience. I look forward to coming every year!! Great job!!!
