as a child my family and I stayed at the Royal Inn every summer, and even as an adult me and my brothers family stayed there , we stayed one time with the new owners, and it just wasnt the same , the Capps made that place what it was , i here in the coming months it will be demolished . I now own my own condo down there but drive buy it everytime im down there just to relived the memories, it will be greatly missed !!! thanks Royal Inn for some great childhood memories !
It hurts me to read what has happened at the Royal Inn. In my youth I was lucky enough to stay in this hotel 11 summers (1 week each) in a row and have very found memories of it. Very sad to hear that the Capp's sold it (and I guess the one beside it) and it has gone down hill. I came across these reviews while thinking about taking my family down again but won't now.
I have been going to the Royal Inn for 17+ years. It has been a family and friends tradition. The Capps were great people so sad the other owners let it go down hill. I was there last year and got in the pool and cleaned it myself for my family and friends to swim. It was really bad. This year we are making new traditions and starting somewhere else.
The first review about the new owners is true. i was there at the end of the 2006 season. there were only 4 or 5 others there ans we were given the worst room in the place. you would think management would give someone the best rooms especially when the motel was so empty and the rate was over $70. Our room was not clean and was smelly. Homeless people were asleep in one of the hallways. What a shame to let such a solid clientel as the Capps had go elsewhere. We left before checking in after seeing the way things had gone down. This however is just my opinion.
The new owners that took over I think about 2 years ago are no ways as friendly as the previous owners were. The rooms smell musty, carpet feels dirty and when we looked in the fridge it didn't work. They said you have to turn it on in order for it to work (we have never in the 15+ years that we have been staying there had to turn either the air nor the fridge on). We stayed there last in August 2005 and usually have a bunch of family that come down with us and we all stayed there. We won't be doing that anymore. The new owners think all they have to do is take your money and don't bother them after that.
My first trip to the beach was spent here....13 yrs later I took my daughter on her first trip to the beach and stayed here again. This is a smaller, family oriented place. Very clean, very reasonable, very close to everything you want to see. The owners are fantastic people prepared to cater to your every need. I am getting married soon, and I want to stay here again. Being here feels like home...when you're not home...
We throughly enjoyed this motel. It is very family oriently. They are most helpful in directions. The rooms are very clean and the price you can't beat for a family. We have stayed there over the course of many years. The hospitality is great!
