My grandparents had the same dishes when I was growing up. So many reminders of the good ole' days. The grounds and property itself may need some work but I will say, the sunsets were amazing and the Villa and linens were clean. The location is secluded and entertaining.
Too often today people are not appreciative of what they really have.
I was lucky to be there on vacation with my husband and two boys.
Many thanks to Bob the owner and operator for his hard work and great price.
We had been going to the Wishing Well Motel at least 3 times per year for the last 6 -7 years. On our last trip (October 2007) we decided we would not be back. The motel (building & grounds)are so deteriorated it is depressing. The owners are still trying to take care of it all by themselves and it's just not working. I am so sad to say this, but I don't want others to go there expecting a nice little place to stay as it is not that way anymore. The sunsets are still beautiful though! :)
In October of 1990, back when we were still dating, my (now former) husband and I tried to sail our 16' Hobie Cat from St. Petersburg to the Keys. We only made it as far as Sanibel Island, but one of our more memorable - and enjoyable - stops was at the Wishing Well Hotel, on Casey Key, where we stayed for two lovely, quiet nights.
Traveling by Hobie, we registered with our sail number instead of an auto tag, and the owners could not have been more accommodating. When we asked if there was a convenience store on the island, they not only told us exactly where it was, but offered to drive us there as soon as we were ready, which they did. The room was extremely clean, directly on the beach, and though somewhat Spartan, very comfortable . . . certainly far more comfortable than our alternative, which was sleeping on the trampoline of our Hobie!
Upon our request, the owners directed us to a local restaurant within walking distance, where we enjoyed a great seafood dinner. The following day they cheerfully ferried us once again to the convenience store. They were exceptionally nice to us throughout our stay, made us feel very welcome, and ensured that we would send them as much business as possible in the years to come. Since our stay, we have directed a number of friends who were looking for an out-of-the-way place to chill for a couple of days, and know that at least a couple of them stayed there, and liked it as well as we did.
For those looking for luxury, mints on their pillows and turn-down service, this is not the place. I don't recall whether they had a pool or not - after all, they are right on the beach! - but for value, cleanliness, solitude, quiet, friendliness, unhampered beach access and a generally great, laid-back attitude, I give them five stars out of a possible five.
Wishing them well for many years to come,
