Mokuleia Beach Colony, The windiest place on EARTH!
By A Yahoo Contributor, 2/2/08
The windiest place on EARTH! I AM NOT KIDDING, I never got a moment in my whole time there of over 2 weeks in Jan /Feb. where the wind was not GUSTING, in addition it rained almost everyday, even if it was dry in other areas it was raining here. I guess if you are into wind/water sports it would have been wonderful, but for me, It was HORRIBLE! All sharp “reef” beaches, no good swimming to be found at all near the Colony! It was nice for beach walks, if you are into sand in your mouth with every breath and sand "EVERYWHERE" else too!
Lovely grounds at the Beach Colony! This is perfect if you are a senior and want to sit in your expensive rental unit and watch TV or sit around and drink by the pool. This place was not my idea of a good Hawaiian vacation and I would NEVER recommend it to a friend!
Stay AWAY--big $2,000+ waste of money for Unit 13A
BEWARE! Just stayed there in July 2011. Vermin-infested. The first mouse was found in my daughter’s suitcase days into our stay. Soon after, a large 2 inch cockroach was found in one of the beds and another was found on the kitchen countertop—others were spotted scurrying about as the days went on. We set traps and five mice were caught in a single night! Other than telling us to remove the mice and re-set the traps and sending a guy over to dispose of the mice and check the remaining traps, the landlord did nothing. While it is a cute place, the trip was not at all relaxing and my grand-baby got terribly sick and she and her mother had to cut their holiday short as a result. As I write this, we are waiting for hospital results to see if my daughter contracted Leptospirosis from the mice urine. To top it off, Landlord Rebecca (who goes by the handle BeachLover) promised a refund that never came.
I would only recommend this rental to an entomologist (bug expert) or a mouse-ologist. Andre
We stayed in 18a and we couldn't think of anything that would have made it better. Quiet, roomy and comfortable. Kitchen with all the appliances. Clean and well-decorated. A short drive to the North Shore beaches. We could live here (we're thinkin' full time!). Oh yeah, the Internet connection also helps to stay on top of those work things.
Highly recommended by all four of us! Enjoy!!
don't stay at this unit--very old--mattress and sofas need replacing. The Colony is really a great place to stay --spent 34 days there in May--but the condo was really awful.
great restaurants in Halewia --the lunch wagons are fun...
We love this place. My family and I stay here whenever we come to Hawaii. We always stay in Unit 10-B right on the water. Wonderful view of the ocean. Secluded beach. Quiet community. Great salt water swimming pool. This is great for families or a romantic getaway or even for a quiet retreat to rest and renew yourself. Located not far from Haleiwa town with good restaurants, grocery stores, art galleries, etc. I highly recommend it to you. Can't wait to go back again this year!
My parents took me here for a month when I was a little boy in the mid 1970s; from the pictures I have seen the place hasn't changed much but has been maintained.... it is a place you will never forget.
I lived next to the condos on Laua Paina when the condos were being built in the 60's. I went back to visit and couldn't believe the huge homes that now block beach access. Everything has changed except these condos! It was great stepping back into time and feeling the slower Hawaii feeling again. Keep the country in North Shore. Condos are showing their age but so am I. Had a great time there relaxing and everything is still close by car if you need anything.
I have stayed at unit 13A at MBC twice and am planning to return for 2 weeks this spring. We absolutely love this place. We have always found it spotless, and have never seen any of the things written in the 8/15 post. We have always found the owner pleasant, easy to work with and accommodating. The place is fully remodeled, modern, comfortable and a wonderful place for a real Hawaiian holiday. I wouldn't stay any place else! Thanks Rebecca!! SW
Lived here for a year - it changed my life forever
By A Yahoo Contributor, 11/13/09
timeless, i lived here while my dad was in vietnam in 68-69. a lot of military families were in the colony. everyone turned on, snorkeled and surfed. days were endless in this isolated end of the road section of oahu. went to high school in the sleepy town of wailua. it was like the third world back then. i will never forget that year!
My brother, mother, and I were one of those military families that lived here in '68-'69. In 2006 I returned and stayed in one of the beachfront units. Virtually nothing was changed! It was as if I had never left. It sure brought many fond memories of a time forever gone. I would recommend Mokuleia Beach Colony to those who want to relax and get away from it all. Jack
