Waikiki Beachside Hostel, Honolulu

Our first impression of this hostel was not too bad. However, the semi-private rooms are really nothing special, there are only the bed and a totally broken chest of drawers, nothing else. I can confirm the cockroaches reported by another reviewer and the room was dirty when we arrived, during our stay (since nobody bothered to clean), and after. Staff was nice at the beginning, but when they made a mistake in reservations (we reserved a third bed in the same room for a friend), they said that this can happen without the slightest interest to help us. We experienced another major desaster when it came to billing - nothing seems organized there. When we came back to Honolulu, we chose the "Polynesian Hostel" right next to this one. In fact, there are three hostels in the same street, but I cannot tell anything about the third one. In the Polynesian you get a really nice, big, and 100% private room for the same money + it is clean and the staff is relaxed. They offer the same service (and more - like free organized tours) and you can store your luggage for free. So you better go there!

excellent place to stay and meet nice people from all over the world.rooms were kept nice and clean.Everyday during my 2 week stay.To the Man from England.stop complaining and enjoy the time to know the island.you should have requested an upgrade and spend little more money to enjoy some privacy like i did.Everyone at the front desk were very helpful and informative as to guidance to move around the area.I recommend people to see for themselves and enjoy the beautyful weather in september.so many great things to do.life is to short to complain.live life to the fullest.go dancing to all the nice clubs they have.Greetings from colorado.psss. The only thing this cockroach infested dive has going for it is their location. Other than that, there is not one thing I can say positive about this place. The front desk staff was more concerned with sending text messages than acknowledging my presence. They charge you for EVERYTHING... lockers, safes, storage... they advertise EVERYTHING, then when you get there, you find out they don't sell/rent/provide those things, they point you to another location. The rooms are filthy and infested with cockroaches. They crammed us into a small 1 bedroom size room, with 8 people! We complained about the roaches, and they did nothing. I will never stay at this place again, and I am telling everyone I know how horrible this place is. The lobby looks like it's in the middle of a war zone!

This was my second experience staying at a hostel, and it totally blew me away. The front desk staff are amazingly helpful and really go out of their way to make sure that everyone has a great time. they have awesome tours that you can book for really cheap. You can even rent a car for dirt cheap, and its through Thrifty car rental so its like a brand new car. They even have places to park the car behind a gate so that its safe. I stayed in a female dorm and it was a little crowded with 6 girls in one dorm, but we had our own kitchen and bathroom (which is great cause I don't have to worry about walking down the hallway passed any guys in just my towel like at some other hostels). They had housekeepers come in every day to clean the room and thoug they could have done a little better job it was at least kept pleasantly liveable. They had a great lounge area with 3 big screen TVs that people could chill out and socialize. They even allow drinking as long as you are of age. They have a free breakfast each morning, it's not much but it really helps when your on a budget. This is the best experience I have had travelling and I would recommend it to just about everyone. Though if you are older or have problems with stairs or bunk beds you might want to find some place with a lift and single beds. This place is awesome if your in your twenties and thirties and want to meet tons of other people. I even met this guy there and we are now a solid couple, so its awesome for singles. Its the best hostel in Oahu!! Dont stay at any other place.

This hostel is one of the better ones that i have stayed at. Clean and lots of fun to be had. I would love to stay here again.
