Do Not Stay Here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/07
I want to start this review off by saying that I rarely complain about anything and have never written a bad review about any hotel in my life, but I thought that it was important that I share my experience with potential guests.
My family and I were excited about our trip to Saugatuck and our stay at the Suites of Saugatuck. Unfortunately, we were greatly disappointed with several aspects of our stay. First and foremost, the swimming pool was not clean and clear as the hotel would lead you to believe. Rather, the pool was dirty and full of algae. There was so much algae in fact, that my daughter slipped and fell on the side of the pool when walking by. It looked as if the pool had not been cleaned in a very long time. I was warned about the condition of the pool by a friend who had stayed at S.o.F. a year before our stay, but I had hoped that her comments about the uncleanliness of the pool had been corrected before our stay. Unfortunately, the pool was in the same dirty condition.
Also, our room was missing sheets and pillow cases for one of the beds, as fact that we did not discover until the office was closed. So for a night, we had to sleep without sheets and without pillows. The office did not provide any phone number to call in case you had an after-hours problem with the room, so we had no way to rectify the problem until the next morning. And although the office did bring us the missing items the next morning, they never so much as apologized for the inconvenience.
Finally, the bathroom was dirty and the beds were extremely uncomfortable. Plus, the tiny and old television and DVD player both lacked remote controls and were practically unusable (despite the fact that they advertise both as amenities).
From the experience of my family, and that of a friend a year before, I cannot recommend strong enough that you NOT stay at this hotel. There are plenty of other lodging options in the Saugatuck area that would be much better.
