We did not stay at the cabins but stopped, by chance, at the restaurant. The unpretentious exterior did not prepare us for such a culinary delight!! The food and wine were Fabulous and the service was exceptional! We are already planning another trip to Ca. and another visit to River's End!
We made reservations on January 5th, 2009 for July 31st. (our 3rd wedding anniversary in cabin 4), re-confirmed the reservation in March. July 20th we're told that they double booked the cabin, SORRY...
The only thing that this facility has to offer is the view. The cabins, specifically #3 are completely run down. Front door verneeer peeling off. Bathroom door would not close. Carpet and room were dirty. Shades would not stay down for privacy/glare. CD player broken.
We made reservations for both cabin and dinner 5 weeks ahead of time. Upon arrival for dinner for 7pm we had to wait at least half an hour before being seated at a table that had a view of the deck and a wall. Nice and romantic. NOT! Also the food although tasty was not worth the $ charged. This may be because they have a captive audience as there are just a couple of alternatives that are close. Service should have been better than just filling up our water glasses...
I have been going to this place over the last 25yrs and it has really slipped. They spend no $ to upgrade/repair the lodging facility. Just put it in their pocket. We would recommend an alternative location.
I did quite a bit of research into options in Jenner and the local area and saw mixed reviews on everything. I'm fairly picky when it comes to lodging and as a frequent traveler I enjoy quality hotels and expect clean comfortable settings. I knew I would not find the Westin, but what I found at the Rivers End was well worth the money.
First off, the room. We stayed in cabin #4...it was isolated, quiet and cozy with absolutely amazing views of the ocean and river. The room was clean and comfortable. The bed was very comfortable, the sheets were clean and the comforter was warm and clean. The room itself had a cozy wood cabin feel with a patio and deck chairs. The bathroom was a bit aged and the towels were thin and cheap, but as I said, I wasn't expecting the Westin. Overall, we were very pleased with the room.
As for dinner, the food and service was great. We enjoyed a wonderful meal with desert and wine. The service was prompt and professional, our waters were never empty, and the food was delicious. After dinner drinks were also quite good at the bar.
I've read previous reviews about issues with management. I can't speak to the subject as I had no interaction with management. My sole interaction with staff at the Rivers End consisted of dinner and lodging check-in, both of which went fine.
Overall, we had an excellent experience both with the room and with dinner and I would recommend the River End and definitely plan to return.
We ate at the restaurant twice, and the food, atmosphere, and view and view were excellent. The people there are very friendly and helpful! Call ahead for reservations if possible, but if not, arrive early and sit at the bar. The best restaurant experience in the area, although there are other good ones as well.
