Sunset Cove Motel, Key Largo

My boyfriend and I stayed here for a week and had a great experience. It is not a fancy 5 star hotel (so if you are expecting that do not stay here) but it has a great location near restaurants, Publix, CVS, and the marina for diving & snorkeling trips. Also it has an amazing view of the sunsets each night. Plan on making your own breakfasts – the complimentary breakfast is just coffee, juice, some fruit and a wrapped gas station type pastry. It has grills but you need to buy your own charcoal. Overall, I would recommend Sunset Cove to anyone looking for a friendly location at a reasonable price in a good location.

We (family of 4) veiwed Sunset Cove on the internet. The pictures of the grounds , beach and resort are exactly as shown. We loved our stay, accomodations and the price.This is a quiet laid back place. My 17 yr old son snorkled (not much to see but thats gods choice) and kayaked. My wife and 19 yr old daughter read under the shade of the numerous tiki huts. We met visitors from several nations who stopped on a whim as they traveled to their $300.00 a nite digs down the islands.Just to enjoy the crowds and screaming kids and resort waterparks. The staff was polite and helpful.We were shown 2 room options by Robin. He's a hoot.He let us walk around to view the resort. We new what we were getting and it was worth the money. We even stayed an extra day in yet another lovely little cottage as our original digs were booked for divers. Belive the pictures and walk around the grounds.You too may just decide to stay. Im writing this review because it upsets me to see what others are saying about Sunset Cove. First of all this is a key-zy Motel not the Holiday Inn. my family and I found this palce off their website and love it. They are very laid back they have all you need there or just a few steps away. Ppl who dont like this place is bc they just dont know waht a motel is. As far as the staff there is two that I know if and one of them is teh manager who has been there since we started going there 5 yrs ago so she knows this place and treats it like if it was her own! I reccomend this Motel to any one who wants a laid back tranquil place. Sunset Cove is the Perfect Vacay place!

Dislike? Try Hate. This place is out of control. Right now we are listening to the loudest Spanish music imaginable and it is 9:10 p.m. These guests think they own the property. Perhaps they do, but it'll be a cold day in hell before my wife, grandson and I return. Yesterday I had to call the office to stop the shouting, music, dog's yipping, and teens yelling, and I expect that at 10:00 tonight I'll have to do the same. I'll be contacting every newspaper in Florida, as well as the Key Largo Chamber of Commerce, to tell of the miserable nature of this 'resort.' If it is summer, a weekend, or some holiday, stay away from Sunset Cove Beach Resort. The rest? Misleading pictures, no beach, leaky roof in our cottage (the Tiki Suite), you get to swim with boat gas and oil on what there is of a beach/swimming area.

We loved the quiet location, the hotel personnel, and the very private lanai where we could gather our family for a homemade dinner or just to hang out. We watched spectacular sunsets from hotel's lounge chairs set up along the shore. The panorama here included pelicans and an unobscured view of the Gulf. Upon our arrival, the hotel personnel made sure we were supplied promptly with linens and kitchen utensils to meet our specific needs. The furnishings need to be upgraded, i.e. new mattress, refrigerator, and screens on the louvered windows. The breakfast pastries would be much better if they came fresh, instead of prepackaged, but the coffee was great!

We stayed here this past weekend, 2/14/09, for one night. It was cute, nothing great. Rooms were very basic, we did have a full refrigerator and microwave. Amenities are just canoes and paddle boats, which are free of use, and we did take advantage. But there wasnt much to canoe out to or see. We just paddled around looking for exotic fish, we didn't find any. This is a very old resort. Rooms still had locks and keys, inside rooms that ajoined were slide locks-It was a little scary. Bathroom was very tiny, but shower had great water pressure. We had a room with no kitchen, although we did walk passed a few that had doors open and they looked much nicer. I reccommend requesting a room closer to the water, and not in a den (which we had). The resort is 1/2 a block long with little bungalows on both sides of the street. It has a small meeting area with atables nad chairs and a fountain-nice for quirt evenings. It had another little area with hammocks, but they smeeled moldy. Towards the back it has a dock that you can walk out on and fish off of, bring your own fishing equip.-which we did. The room had minor spots of filfth on the walls and joints to the floors. Linens were suprisingly very clean and although the bed were not new, they were very comfortable. Ample towels are in the bathroom, but in order to get more you must put the dirty ones in a basket and walk them to the office where they take them out of the basket and count them in front of you beofre replensihing your supply. They give you a few tiny bars of soap, we always bring our own toiletires, but in this case-were very happy we did as they had nothing other than tiny bars. Maid service is only on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays, for longer stays you must make your own bed and tidy up. (I wouldn't mind, but that is park of going away-not having to make the bed) we only stayed one night so it didnt apply to us. The maid came in as soon as we left the key at the desk. THe front office closes at 11pm, there are no phones in the rooms. If there is an emergency, which there was, bring your cell phone. There was a domestic disturbance in the den next door in which police were involved-it was very scary-we made sure our lights were off and doors were locked. The local police had them leave, the front office was very apoligetic about the situation. We didnt let it affect our night. Each bungalow had its own private seating area and bbq pit. In the back there are 2 RV type vehicles for those looking for a more basic escape. Along the beach are a few tables and some tiki shade structures with bamboo chairs-very cute. My kids thoroughly enjoyed them. They had a few lounge chairs for tanning and a small beach for kids to play on the sand. Around the grounds they have big statues of animlas and dinosaurs-very cute my kids loved taking photos with them and pretending to be on safari. In the A.M. they offer coffee, juice and some packaged pastries for breakfast along with fress apples and oranges. Its not anything to be excited about. We had coffee and drove down the road to a cafe to eat. We left our key and were told they have an outdoor bathroom w/ shower for those wanting to enjoy the beach and amenities for the day past check out-which was really nice. Most places once you check out you are out, we had travel plans so we left, but thought the offer was really nice. We would stay here again. I'd prefer a different room. I wasnt thrilled with the den. We talked about booking a return trip, which they offered with a return discount, but we decided we'd rather see more of the Keys and turned it down. I'm sure we'll find something similar elsewhere in another place. I would not want to stay here for more than one night. I would reccomment this place for a quick weekend getaway or a stop over. Not a great palce to vacation for long periods of time.
