Our perfect wedding!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/12/10
My and husband and I came to The Governor's House with about 25 friends and family for our wedding. Suzanne is an excellent hostess and she took care of the whole event. We did not have to worry about a thing. The food was amazing, the rooms are gorgeous and everything is maintained to a super high standard. It is such a romantic place, the house is stunning and it is the perfect location for a wedding. After the event all of our friends and family said how beautiful the wedding was. I cannot express my gratitude to Suzanne for giving us such an amazing day!!!! If you're looking for a wedding package on a budget, The Governor's House is the place for you!

Loved it here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 3/18/10
I stayed at the Governor's House last fall and absolutely loved it! It's beautiful, quiet, romantic. The rooms are big and comfortable, the breakfast delicious, the innkeeper perfectly attentive. No complaints at all!!

Great B&B!
By David, 1/8/10
My girlfriend and I just a had a wonderful stay at the Governor's House.  The house has been painstakingly renovated by the innkeeper and it shows in every detail.  The house is conveniently located near upstate Vermont ski resorts.  The innkeeper is very helpful with suggested activities and is a wonderful host and chef.  She has assembled an amazing collection of movies, books and boardgames that could keep you entertained for days! We will definitely stay here again soon!

returning for a second stay!
By Roger, 12/21/09
I'm making plans to return to this inn soon, and I realized I never got around to writing a review after my first visit. I'm definitely looking forward to my second visit... I would come back for the food alone! The innkeeper makes sure that her guests never go hungry or want for anything during their stay. She was incredibly helpful in directing us to various attractions in the area. Our room was spacious and beautifully arranged. I watched more great movies from the inn's video/dvd library in that weekend alone than I've watched in all of the past year. The sitting rooms were luxurious yet very comfortable and provided lots of entertainment. There was even a small room in which I could sit and make a personal phone call in private. You must stay at this inn if you are planning a visit to the area.

Loved it
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/20/09
I really loved my time here. I tend to go the bed and breakfast route when traveling and this is one of my top five stays of all time. For starters, the inn is just gorgeous and the rooms feel very regal and luxurious. It's incredibly clean and well kept but still cozy and personal, which is why I like bed and breakfasts. Best of all were the little details Suzanne, the owner, incorporates for her guests - breakfast in bed, tea, games and movies to choose from, adorable gift shop. All in all its a fabulous inn and perfect for a weekend getaway.

Perfect!
By Emma, 9/16/09
Perfect! I’ve stayed in many bed and breakfasts and this one has been by far the most enjoyable. The house itself is great – beautiful, clean, and cozy. But what really makes the the place stand out is the hospitality itself. The woman who runs it was extremely friendly, welcoming, and helpful, the food was delicious. We were served breakfast in bed and ice cream at night, she helped us pick out movies and had all the inside knowledge of the best places to ski nearby and even offered afternoon tea. We came to ski but were tempted to spend much of the trip inside. I cannot speak highly enough about the governors house!

Best B&B in New England
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/29/08
I have stayed at the Governor's House several times and everything about the place exceeds excpectations so magnificently I would not consider staying anywhere else. To start with, the house is absolutely beautiful, with every inch lovingly restored in exquisite detail. The rooms are large, many have fireplaces, and all, in my experience, are very comfortable. An unbelievable restoration job might be enough for some, but the house is just the beginning at this place. The innkeeper, Suzanne Boden, is extremely accomodating of all kinds of special requests and will literally attend to your every need. For example, she will stay up late to greet you when you arrive if the snow slows down your trip, she will serve you breakfast (in the dining room with a gorgeous mountain view) at whatever time you want or even in your room if you prefer. There are homemade cookies and fruit all day available all day (honestly, when was the last time you saw a cookie jar full of homemade cookies just available for the taking? Unebelievable). She is quite knowledgeable about the area and great at recommending restaurants or activities. She pretty much does everything she can think of to make your stay more comfortable and enjoyable. Once, I happened to be staying at the inn while a small wedding was taking place, and I must say, it was beautiful setting for such a special occasion. From what another guest said to me and from what I know about Suzanne's hospitable and accomodating nature (not to mention her cooking), I'm sure the whole event was a grand success. A glance in the guest book showed that the house has hosted many weddings in the past, and from what I could tell, each one was more perfect than the last. I would say Suzanne makes you feel at home, but staying here beats home by a long shot.

Avoid, like the plague
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/10/07
On all of the photographs, this place looks great. It's a lovely building, and it seemed the perfect place for us to get married. However, we quickly found out that were dealing with somebody entirely unprofessional. First, we tried to sort out a menu for dinner and were told that we should wait until closer to the event before discussing it. Then, about a month before the wedding, we were told that a lot of the things we wanted to eat on the day were simply not possible, because of the time it would take, and that "I don't do seafood" Then we were told that because there were going to be people coming to the ceremony who were not staying at the House, there would be a $150 'event fee' + $7.50 per person - this despite the fact that we were going to fill the place up for three days. Furthermore, we were told that any delivery person, for example to bring the cake or flowers, would also be subject to this $7.50 charge. Second, we wanted to know if we could have a few candles lit for ambience, and what sort of champagne was carried at the House. However, we were brusquely told that candles were not permitted, (apparently because they'd set off the fire alarm) and that there was no licquor licence. This is despite the fact that the website advertised a candlit lit champagne dinner as part of its wedding package! We experienced so many problems at this establishment that we had to cancel our wedding at fairly short notice and hold it somewhere else. The conduct of the landlady at this place was astonishing, and it is beyond me how she manages to get any business at all. It is a real shame as the House would be a wonderful venue if it were in more capable hands.

Run Away!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/10/07
Contrary to the previous reviewer, the owner of this lovely inn is the MOST unprofessional, dishonest business person I have ever met. A month before my wedding I had to pull out and chagne the entire venue because she suddenly could not offer all she had agreed to at the time of booking. I was reassured because my florist, wedding officiant and even waitress at a restaurant all had similiar experiences with her. It's a beautiful inn, it's a shame it's run by such an unfriendly, out of touch woman.

We will be going back...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/18/06
My new husband and I eloped to Hyde Park and got married at the Governor's House in Hyde Park. It was a lovely experience from start to finish. The innkeeper, Suzanne Boden, is a wonderful business woman. She took care of all the details for me (we were coming from Ontario, Canada). Nothing was overlooked. The setting of the inn and surrounding area was breathtaking. Our breakfasts each morning were well prepared and even though we did not get to see in her kitchen (as any accomplished chef would not allow), Ms. Boden was attentitive, professional and made the experience of the lovely State memorable. My husband and I would recommend her inn to anyone.
