Happy Surprise 19th Anniversary for my wife!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/15/11
First let me preface this by saying , this was our first time on Block Island. I am friends with and have been a coworker of one of the Mott family members who own the Naragansset Inn on the Island, but chose to stay somewhere more modern to make a great impression on my wife. That being said, I researched many places and settled on Paynes Harbour View inn. Thank god for them!!! Mrs Payne, the owner, was extremely accomodating in that I planned and schemed to surprise my wife, by having an anniversary card, flowers , and wine waiting in the room when we got there. The ruse was that we were there for the day, and were just checking out places first, to see where we might like to stay at a later date. The staff was extremely helpful in pulling off the act , and my wife , needless to say was very happily surprised. Now on with the critique. Paynes at first glance is beautiful. The sweeping views of New Harbour are magnificent, especially from the private deck off the 2nd floor room that we had..Room #4 What a night on Sept 11th. Beautiful clear sky, and bright full moon....That's Amore. The place itself is new, however it was built to resemle an old structure, with wide hallways and artisinal mouldings al around. The room was quite ample in size, with an antique looking, extra high quenn sized bed, and quaint New England style linens/blanket. Color was soft but tasteful pink, and the bathroom was extremely clean and well appointed. Breakfast was included, as a continental style that offered toast, bagels, waffles, quiche, fresh fruits, ,and cereals as well as tea, coffee, juice and such. I have read others complain about the lack of full breakfast with regards to the room rate,, but let me say this, we walked the Island, and toured several of the more famous inns/Hotels that offer "magnificent " Manissis brunches, but the rooms pale in comparison to Paynes. So the question is what is more important...eggs and bacon or a great room, staff and atmosphere to boot? We were convinced off the bat that Paynes will be our newest tradition as we make Block Island our new get away tradition on a yearly basis!!!! Thanks again to the owner/innkeeper and all the great staff for making a much needed "Mom and Dad only" getaway even better....SMB Wallingford Ct

This place is the best to stay at Block Island. The rooms are great decorated, there you can feel the spirit of Block Island, even the Inn is the newest on the island. The service is more then fine. We love you Carole Payne. From Bulgaria
