Home Away From Home
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 2/14/11
I have been a repeat customer at Sheppards Place now for many years and have recommended it to many others. My husband and I have stayed in every room at Sheppards Place/The Executive Suite & The Beach Houses as well as in Patty's old B&B which is now her family home. Patty (the owner) is the most accomodating woman I have ever met, if you have a special request, she and her staff will see to it that it is fulfilled. I once mentioned that I used to eat pomegranates all the time as a child...the next day there were pomegranates in her fruit salad. I look forward to any stay at Sheppards no matter if its 1 night or a week because as soon as I walk in I feel completely at home and welcome. Patty & her staff will make sure that you are comfortable in an impeccably clean room with fresh sheets on your bed & towels in your bathroom, a DELICOUS breakfast to wake up to (that always includes the best fresh fruit salad on the planet), a friendly non intrusive face to chat with as well as a knowledge of the area to direct you to fun and unusal (the umbrella factory) places to visit. If you are looking for the kind of place where you check in, go to your room, watch tv, order room service and have an impersonal stay then Sheppards Place may not be the choice for you...BUT if you are looking to stay in a warm, friendly home away from home, where you can have all the privacy you desire or be as social as care to be, where you can feed koi fish, stroll through a beautifully kept garden and walk into the B&B and feel as if you are an old cherished friend then Sheppard's Place is your kind of place. Something Patty stated to me when we first started staying at Sheppards Place was " My goal is to build a clientele that is like a second family" Patty has achieved goal this with both me and my husband & we will continue to always come home to Sheppards Place. LOVED OUR STAY!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/23/10
WONDERFUL!! We couldn't have had a better stay anywhere else! We stayed in one of the Queen rooms. The decorations were beautiful and the christmas trees on each floor were a great treat for the coming holiday! My wife fell in love with the place and refuses to go anywhere but here on our next vacation. We have a baby with us. Not ideal for a vacation because we normally have to bring everything with us just incase. Patti the owner assured us that she had everything and she did! Upon our arrival we went to our room to find a cute pack and play already made up with a baby sheet set and blanket. At breakfast the next morning his high chair had little pancakes just his size and fruit salad. I am a picky eater and even I couldn't get enough of breakfast everything was hot and tasty! There is a park next door which was great for kids and pets ( she does allow small animals.) Patti gave us a bunch of local places to visit incase we needed ideas and or directions. We had a blast on our mini RI getaway! Before leaving we booked our next vacation for the summer 2011 in the Suite! We can't wait to come back!

DON'T GO HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/6/10
My wife and I stayed for only one night at the Sheppard’s Place B&B because we couldn’t stand the thought of staying any longer. This place is NOT a bed and breakfast. When we arrived, the management did not even have record that we reserved the room over a month in advance. There was no one there at first, so we had to call and the owner told us to let ourselves inside through the open door in the back of the house. She had no idea where we were supposed to stay, but we found what we assumed to be our room downstairs and we immediately noticed how musty and dank it was. There was mold along the insides of the shower, there was no ventilation in the room and very little light, and our room smelled like pets. We found that the “B&B” has no restrictions on pets and their website says nothing about this fact. (Although, there was a spray-canister of “Cat Urine Sanitizer” on top of the kitchen refrigerator – so maybe at least the customers cleaned). They were horribly disorganized – for instance, we had to ask for the wireless internet password and the owner’s son did not give it to us as he promised until the next day when we asked again. After staying the night, my wife and I both had headaches because of the smell and mustiness, so I asked the owner if we could switch our room. The owner appeared agitated at my description of the room being “musty” (maybe she doesn’t go down there), but her son suggested we stay “in [his] room.” While this sounded like a generous sacrifice, he showed me the room (literally, just his bed with a closet) and straightened up the bed sheets like he had just been laying on the bed – as if that is what goes for “preparing a room.” After seeing this, my wife and I decided to use the internet password, belatedly bestowed, and used it to book a different place for the night. Sheppard’s Place is not like their website advertises! If you are looking for a place in RI to stay, try a different B&B, a hotel, or even a hostel for that matter. JUST DON’T GO HERE.

Great Place but...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/31/10
I stayed at Sheppard's Place recently and it was great. The area was amazing and the price was cheap only 100$$$ a night. Unfortunately I didn't feel comfortable at breakfast. There was a dog that was constantly scratching and begging for food. I was nervous about my dog getting fleas. There were also spots on the rug like the dog was using the bathroom. Other than the pets I enjoyed my stay.

The best B & B in Narragansett!
By NH gal, 7/3/08
The house was quite spacious and surprisingly private. The innkeeper was such a pleasure and the rooms were great! Every room has a CLEAN private bath and the garden in the back is a little oasis, complete with a little koi pond. We have stayed at other B&Bs in the area but this was the cleanest and most pleasant, located close to downtown and walking distance to beach and great restaurants! We love this place!!!

Great place and they love pets!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/2/06
This place is a great find. The innkeepers (The Sheppards) own several properties in the area. All are great. Where else can you spend a night one block from the ocean with a lovely room with private bath, access to the grounds, living area, and a gourmet breakfast for $100? And, they love pets. (however, its polite if they are clean and brushed and you take care of their "poop". I am a parent of a URI (University of Rhode Island) student and will absolutely use this place again.
