A Nice Weekend
The Biltmore Inn was nice, but NOT the very best. In my opinion, it was a bit overpriced. Service was very good, but not exceptional, which is what I would expect at this price range. The room was average size, but we got a "veranda" and a nice view.
We had nice dinners at the Bistro and Dining Room. Although it also was not cheap, the food was very good.
The Inn is a great way to see the Biltmore over more than one day, so you are not worn out. The shuttle for guests of the Inn makes seeing everything even easier. However, I can agree that the estate as a whole is a little like a tourist trap, with them looking to get every penny they can and not trying to create the most laid back experience.
It was also a bonus that the outdoor pool was still open in mid-October.
