Annapurna Circuit Trek with Broad Adventure
By ,
I was always willing to go to the Himalayas and explore some of the beauties hidden in the sacred mountains. I chose the Himalayan country Nepal in order to pursue my dream. Broad Adventure really made my dream come true. The way they treated my during my whole journey was really awesome. I just wished to trek around Annapurna and Broad Adventure was there to arrange everything for me. I was provided with a trekking guide who had excellent knowledge about local environment, local customs, traditions, etc. Throughout the trip there was not a single moment when I could take my eyes off the natural beauty. So, I strongly recommend everybody who wish to trek in Nepal to go from Broad Adventure helping you arrange a journey of your lifetime.

great hostel, great location, great food
By ,
this is a wonderful hostel that i would definetely recommend to young, independent minded travellers who are planning to stay in victoria for any length of time. the staff are very friendly, and there is always a good mix of interesting people to socialise with in the common areas and bar. the location is great, and the dorm rooms are fine, basically what you would expect from a hostel. the kitchen can get crowded at meal times, as not all of the hobs work, but the restaurant food is wonderful so you may find yourself cooking less and less. overall a great place to stay, very good value for what it is.

A little piece of home (plus included bar)
By ,
I came to the Oceans Island Hostel in march 2010. My travel-guide said, that it is the best place to live and meet new, interesting people for an affordable price in whole Victoria, and I must admit, it was right. The Hostel itself has a very cool and easygoing vibe, that catches you at the very first moment you enter the building. All rooms (including bathrooms, kitchen, and bedrooms) are very nice and clean and you start to feel home very quickly here. There is a 24-hour front desk, where one of the superfriendly staff members is available at all times, to make sure that you are pleased with your current situation, and who always have an open ear about your concerns. The Hostel includes a very nice bar where you can join travelers from all over the world or locals from Victoria for delicious food or have a couple of drinks for a great price 7 days a week. So if you should ever come to Victoria and looking for a great (and affordable) place to stay, you should absolutely give this place a try, I highly recommend it.

A Place to Miss when you Leave
By ,
Hostels are Awesome places. You meet alot of different people of all sorts and sizes. It is a place where randomness lives. and that randomness will make your stay worth while! This hostel has alot of things to offer for anyone and any budget. It is lively, friendly and fun! If you have very little money to spend on living expenses, Like me, you can work for stay. get your room payed and in the mean time get to meet more people. As working together tends to do. The Locations is perfect. Its right next to downtown. only one block away from the bus stops on douglas and about ten minute walk from the inner harbour. Supermarkets in a 2-4 block radious. china town. you name it. On the nights i did not want to go out i really enjoyed the lounge. A few beers and some food. Just relaxed and meet some more people if you like. Right there in your home away from home. Can you tell i've been coming back here?

Off season rates aren't bad
By ,
But I would have paid a bit more if it meant bigger rooms. There seems to be no set fee per room, I saw a man get a small windowless room for 325 a month and others paid 350 every 2 weeks for the same size room on a different floor. I guess I believe in equality and thought the room prices would be based on either length of sty or size of room and not based on some scale as to how many rooms were available for daily rentals. I'd rather stay at a major chain like HI and know that everyone pays the same price for the same bed/room. I did like the fact they have a small cafe and offer a limited menu in the evenings. The portion size was great and their prices fair. I thought the beer prices were too high. and the layout of the pub, common eating area and kitchen was too cramped. Its nice they offer woofing to the kids, but I think paying them with vouchers only redeemable for food or booze is a little unfair, they should be able to decide where they spend their hard earned cash. Especially considering they have to clean bathrooms for 100 plus other backpackers.

more than just a place to stay!
By ,
i have been staying here the past 5 months even i originally only planned to stay here for about a month or two. the reason for my long stay is that victoria and this hostel is just awesome. it is close to the harbor, clubs, pubs, several grocery stores and liquor stores. :) the staff is just great! they are friendly young people you have a lot of fun with and they help you out whenever you need help. in addition, the hostel is very clean and the have amazing offers for monthly stays. all in all it was a time i will never forget! stefan walther

No place Like...
By ,
I stumbled upon this place by chance. was stranded in victoria and needed some where to stay. the people i was traveling with dropped me off on the doorstep of my Home for many night. Welcome to the Ocean island. A place where you can feel at home and are always welcome. With a huge diversity in people staying there AND working there it is a great place to socialize and find new friends and travel buddies. The service is good. they help you with everything they can and more. fun stuff, fun bar, good food all for a good price. Best of all, your right down town. Everything is at your fingertips. What ever you are planning to do here it is possible. All depending on what YOU want. Enjoy!

Good roof Good people
By ,
Very friendly staff, most of them familiar with travel as well. Rooms are well maintained, and dorms are fun. The private rooms range in size and configuration and are pretty nice, man. The atmosphere is cool, nice paint job. Not a super huge party spot, but it's totally great if you just want to chill and meet people from all over. Plus--the downtown location is great, right near anything you might need. As a traveler with little money the Work for Stay program was a big help and was also conducive to socializing with other guests and getting more familiar with the staff. I was a big fan of the cafe. Excellent burgers and curries. Good beer prices in the bar too, food& drink combos, desserts (first time I'd had ice cream in weeks!) and superbly-competent lovely bartenders. That being said, I think there is a shortage of common areas. Just for times when you don't necessarily want to be at the bar. A nice quiet place to hang around and read or do whatever without being right in the bar would be very cool. Also, don't miss the live music or extremely awesome trivia game nights.

Great place to stay
By ,
I'v been here for a month and out of the four hostels I'v tried this is one of my favourites, friendly staff, great food, and a cool vibe goin on at the lounge whenever the events are going on (which is quite frequent). local bands, quiz nights, open mic nights, and they even had a thanksgiving dinner for the travellers here to celebrate it for a respectable price. its located right near the downtown area with plenty of things to do in Victoria which makes this a great place to stay with a backpackers budget! -Matt from Newcastle ON
