Description

Our hostel is the best located hostel to all of the concerts, the waterfalls and the clubs. Everything in the building is newly renovated and redesigned for 2013! Great value! Great location! We are a true hostel. Not a motel. Don't be fooled. Our hostel won the 2009 hoscar, a hostelworld award for the number 1 rated hostel in north america and canada for 2009! Number 2 in 2010 and number 3 in 2011. Come and find out why our guests think we are the best. This year we have totally renovated the interior of our building, including all private rooms, dorms, kitchens and bathrooms.Lowest price overall in niagara too, no crazy membership charges or surprise fees and all the taxes are included in our prices. We now have female only dorms in our newly renovated apartments specially designed for female travellers. We also have specially designed family rooms and group apartments available. Our very spacious and roomy dorms have specially designed beds and were custom built to comfortably accommodate adults and backpacks/luggage. The mattresses are for adults. (our bunks are not department store bunk beds with thin mattresses designed for children and sleep overs, lol). Our private rooms have all been redesigned for 2013 with brand new hard wood floors, custom tile entrys, queen sized beds, closets, superior bedding, media centres, desks, windows, individual heaters, and ceiling fans. These are amazing, check them out for a few nights, you will not be disappointed. Not your typical hostel private room located in a converted broom closet, lol.Best location! Just a true, very safe, 5-7 minute walk to the falls! Check out google maps and see just how close we are to the falls compared to other accommodation options. (including those in the usa) no long, dark, night-time walks back to the hostel after the you visit the falls and nearby vibrant pub/restaurant district. Save on taxi fares!Absolutely, no hidden fees, no membership requirements or charges. None. Just pay for the sleep. Everything else we offer is free!Remember when you come to niagara you are coming to see a river! Plan to discover this easily accessible river. In fact it's one of the world's greatest rivers not just the site of the incredible waterfalls. Explore this river away from the shiny tourist areas, this river is incredibly accessible, very easy to see and we will show you how to see it free, not on a cramped tour bus. Fantastic day hikes, world class rock climbing areas, sports fishing, bird watching, cycling paths are all located just a short distance away from the hostel. There is a cycling/walking path along the entire river. Let us show you how easy it is to discover the true niagara, not the tour bus, tourist trap version. Our hostel is located in a quiet, very safe/secure area that is only 5-7 minutes from the waterfalls and the fun night-time entertainment districts. No long dark night-time walks back to the hostel after visiting the falls the or the vibrant club, pub and restaurant/entertainment district.Owned and operated by experienced travellers that understand what backpacking is all about. A very comfortable place to sleep first of all. A value experience, where meeting people in a fun, clean, safe and healthy environment is what matters most. We live on-site, we get to know you and we care about how your trip is going, where you've been and what you want out of your holiday. Lots of free advice/ideas about unique things to do in the area and we can help you plan your ongoing travel and adventures in canada and the usa.Our self contained, apartment style hostel is perfect for groups and families too! Our dorms contain custom made beds designed for adults and the all the rooms have lots of space, not crammed with bunks or double beds in a broom closet. And new for 2013 we now have custom built female only dorms located in our apartments specially designed for females. Luxury in a backpackers environment.Superb location is only a five to seven minute walk to falls and entertainment area and yet we are located in a quiet, very safe and secure neighbourhood. After your day of exploring the river and visiting the falls we have some awesome live music pubs, night clubs and great restaurants very close to our hostel (not a 30-40 minute walk away along a dark road.) Niagara attractions- winter ice skating at the top of niagara falls!! rink at the brink- whirlpool jet boat ride, jaw dropping exhilaration- maid of the mist, the most famous niagara attraction- journey behind the falls, yes behind the falls- whitewater walk along the niagara river- helicopter tour of the mighty niagara gorge and falls- vineyard tours (free wine to sample, learn about wine)- greg frewin theatre amazing magic show every night- whirlpool aerocar gondola ride over the world's largest whirlpool- two world class casinos- rock climbing and bouldering in the niagara gorge- fishing the niagara river- marineland: 2nd largest in north america- clifton hill amusement attractions- self guided cycling and hikingWorking holiday visa (whv, pvt) and jobseekers: niagara has many great opportunities for seasonal jobs with the many tourist based businesses here. (great tips!) Restaurants, pubs, clubs, bars, hotels, casinos and even farm work is available in the area too. Over the years we have had many at our hostel we also offer work for accommodations year round. Many different roles available. Come help us get even better! (it's karma) bring a couple friends and come down and get some canadian work references while saving money and enjoying the year round activities of the niagara region.Very convenient and sooo cheap access from usa/buffalo too. Buffalo airport is a local, city bus ride away. $4.00!!! And a short 20 minute walk across the border to canada and our hostel....and we all shine on...

DON'T GO THERE!!!!!!!!
By F., 5/14/12
This is the worst hostel I can imagine! No, there weren't any bedbugs (at least not in my room), only some tiny ants and the dorm room I stayed in was ok. BUT: The owner is one of the most unfriendly, arrogant and disrespectful persons I've ever met in my life. Not only that he is convinced that his hostel is the only decent one in the whole wide world and makes you feel like an idiot because in his opinion you are only a stupid tourist who thinks niagara falls is only about the falls- no: when I decided to stay in another hostel and to leave the ACBB after one week, he was so offended, that he tried to talk the other hostel down and when I told him, that my decision is made he said: "OK, THEN GET YOUR ASS OUT OF HERE!!!!". I have never been rude to him, I was a paying customer who just decided to go to another hostel. Period. And I have no idea what is going on with him. But that is not a professional behaviour and he should never ever treat a guest like that! Yes, most of the guests are young people and the ACBB is not a 5*hotel BUT he should show some respect-even if the guest decides to stay somewhere else! Other negative aspects: Building looks pretty run down from the outside, inside also needs renovations. Breakfast: Even though I always got up quite early (8:30-9:30), most of the time there was nothing left but a few apples, bananas and some yoghurt. So please do yourself a favour, and go to another hostel!!!

Strange place to stay.....with a strange owner
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/2/12
On arrival I wanted to get settled in and go out to see the falls, but I was accosted by Patrick, the owner and almost talked down to as he explained about how 'We do things differently here' and al about teh strange people he has had stay. There is a reason that most hostels do things a certain way Patrick - because it works and thats what people want. I also got asked where I was going everytime I went out and made to feel like I was a small child being told what to do by mu mum...a stramge place. The bed was comfortable enough and the water was hot, but a few cheap muffins and yoghurt for breakfast isnt that good. How about a toaster and some bread, maybe some jam or anything that I can actually heat up myself. Patrick told me the wifi was off 'because he was using the phone!!?!?!' There was a wifi signal, but with no password I couldnt use it. The one computer has such a fuzzy screen its hard to read and is very slow - sometimes failing to even load hotmail. It is also roght next to the tv/games room (dont get excited, its very small) and so everyine who is in there watching tv can also watch what you are doing on the internet (maybe thats why the screen is fuzzy - so they cant read it!!) The positive is the location - 10 minutes walk to the falls. My davice - if you can get a cheapoer motel or hotel then go there. If not, stay here, but get out as much as you can.

bedbugs all over the place
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/3/11
Avoid this place, its the worst hostel i've ever been to. the check-in was strange, we were tired from the travel and wanted to go to our room, but instead we got a one hour lecture from the dogmatic owner. he told us that we are crazy, because we were only staying for one night. actually we were very lucky about that fact, because we had to share our bed with lots of blood thirsty bedbugs. so we couldnt sleep at all, because they bit us all over our bodys. if you like bedbugs its the right place for you, i added also some pictures of those lovely animals. itself the hostel was nice and clean. the breakfast was nothing special. I'd rather spend the night at the beautiful niagara falls than in this hostel.

Great place to stay!!!!!!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/17/10
Loved this hostel, by far best we've been to in Canada. The last review is so untrue, the crowd staying and working there are genuinly lovely people, the staff even put us in a room before check in time so we could get some sleep after 8 hour greyhound. Breakfast was great, fresh fruit, oatmeal, coffee and juice (thanks gemma for the muffins). Definately recommended to any backpacker.

Dont bother its bad
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/30/10
What i disliked: This place was weird it was like alcoholic hippies had taken over the joint. Apparently i didnt smile enough so i got questioned as to why i wasnt smiling. I felt very very uncomforable with the staff and not safe. Paying with cash was a pain because i had to waste time looking for an ATM. They said that they was a night tour - but it turned out to be a pub scrawl - i wish they had of just said pub crawl as i wouldnt have wasted an hour of my life. The b'fast was bad - i couldn't eat it (green apples, cheap yogart, cheap coffee with powered milk, muffins) - thats not b'fast food!!!! There was no tea even. The kitchen was appalling, the fridge disgusting - this place was from the dark ages, i had never seen such an old fridge or stove. This would have to be the worst hostel i have ever stayed at. The key to my room could hardly open the door, so i wasted time trying to open it. I was given an old towel that was falling apart - honestly i wouldnt even dry my dog with it. This place is a joke. Only one computer where the screen was fuzzy and no printer, i had to find a public library to print out my shuttle bus ticket. The only thing good about this place was the free parking and the location. I would not stay there again because of the alcohol and the people working there creeped me out.

the place to stay
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 5/4/08
We arrived at night, we didn't have any reservation and the hostel was booked out. So Patrick and Jason built two bunk beds right away... we thought they'd be joking. But as we came home from going out at "Jacks" (a nice Pub with live music on weekends!) they just finished... they are caring a lot, help you out to discover the places worth seeing in Niagara Falls. Rick provided us with coffee, juice, fruits, yoghurt and donuts every morning. At weekends he organises going out to Pubs, with a group of people from the hostel... If you are looking for a friendly, clean place, relaxed atmosphere, located just 10 min. walk from Niagara Falls and with several cool Pubs around the corner it's the place to go!

Great Hostel
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/5/07
Excellent service!!! New owners with great info, lots of free stuff included. No hidden HI charges or taxes. Perfect location. Great rooms. Needs a paint job but hey? Lots of fun in Niagara Falls, plan to spend 2-3 days to see all the sites beyond the tacky tourist stuff. This hostel has the best location, bike rentals, tours and fun.

Great Value, Great Staff and Excellent Location
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/26/07
What a surprise! This hostel is perfect for the budget minded traveller that values service and atmosphere. The new owner is well traveled and in the process of modernizing the facilities and building. Very clean but older beds and kitchens make for slightly negative initial impression. However the friendly informative advice and made our trip to the fantastic Niagara region very memorable. We were able to avoid the tacky tourist attractions as staff guided us to the natural wonders of the area. Definitely recommend!

Cosy Privacy
By M-Dawg, 1/9/06
I went with my boyfriend during the summer and the hostel was practically empty. We ended up with an entire apartment to ourselves by accident. Joe was very friendly and brought us breakfast every day. There is plenty of easy parking and it's within walking distance to a couple of bars as well as the falls themselves. The decour was a hodge-podge of pastels but the rooms were clean and it was a great deal. I'd definitely go back!
