Hominy Ridge Lodge and Cabins, Cooksburg

My family rented three units in the lodge for a family reunion recently. We traveled all the way from Atlanta for a week at Hominy Ridge. One day before our arrival the owner emailed us that there would be a $250 damage deposit, rather than the $100 we were were previously advised there would be. When we questioned it, she explained that they had problems with drunkards who had damaged the place, including vomiting in the hot tub. Needless to say, we did not use the hot tub! We stayed in the downstairs unit and could not believe the condition, even for rustic accommodations. The carpet was ripped and stained throughout, the furniture looked like flea market discards, the blankets and pillows were stained, and the unit was very dirty. One of the bedrooms in our 2-bedroom unit was tiny and had no windows. My sister's husband couldn't even sleep in the room. The water smelled like sulfur and a sign posted in the bathroom read "If it's yellow let it mellow. If it's brown, flush it down." There were many signs posted throughout each of the units with warnings and rules. If the place were in pristine condition, it would be more understandable, but under the circumstances it was truly laughable. Even the kids were complaining that they couldn't sleep on the uncomfortable beds. In spite of the very disappointing accommodations, my family and I made the best of it for the week and had a good time. We enjoyed Cook Forest and will likely return, but will not be staying at Hominy Ridge again.

Me and my wife where married here.The previous owners where so nice.These new owners don't take credit cards but they put a hold on your card?This makes no sense then you have all these rules posted on the walls.It just made me feel uncomfortable.Then the guy there just watched us the next morning.We had to take out our own garbage and they charged us $135 for the night .For that much you can find a nicer place which we will do next time

We have stayed at Hominy Ridge many times over the years, infact we got married in one of the cabins. Now the facilities is under new ownership and we were unhappy with our stay. When first ariving the owner insisted that she had to put a hold on our debit, credit card for $250.00 for possible damages, yes I did say $250.00. Now when they put this on hold that is money or credit you can not use untill they release the hold. As a business owner, when I expressed that I didn't like this and I didn't think any place else in cooks forest did this, she insinuated that yes they did. I have since checked and other cabins do not require a $250.00 hold on your debit, credit card for damages. That was the first thing, then we had 2 pets with us and we were told that if there was any evidence on the furniture that the dogs were on it, we would be charged a $50.00 fee, I mean can you believe that. We felt like we were being watched all weekend!!! Then when we left we had to bag our trash and take it out to the dumpster. My husband could not get the dumpster lid open so he placed the bag of trash out side the dumpster. The owner yelled down and said hey sir, as he was watching us and wanted to make sure we put the trash inside the dumpster. Now let me state, we paid $135.00 (including $20.00 extra for the 2 dogs), for this apartment for one night and we were catering to them instead of them catering to us. I am a business owner also and we feel that our customers come first, unfortunately not these people.

If you like water this place meay be a problem.You are warned by many signs in the cabin about the water problem. First off, the water smells very bad...even for well water. Secondly there is a sign in the bathroom that tells you...and I quote "do not flush pee paper" also that careless letting the water run while brushing teeth will cause you to run out of water. The holes in the tile floor in the bath aren't that great as is the ripped table cloth on the picnic table inside the cabin. Not to mention that the couch has seen better days...the back is very weak. You have to sit up or you will be falling over. This is for cabin 4 as that is the one we were given. We rented in feb and were the only people there...one would think we would have got the best...hmmm. As sad as it is this is a real review. BUt, Cook forest is great, we will just stay elsewhere next year

We absolutely loved our stay at Hominy Ridge. It is very peaceful and quiet. We stayed in Cabin 6 and I might add what a very warm and cozy little cabin. I can't say there was anything we needed during our stay at the cabin, just more firewood about every evening, but that we were able to purchase from the office/ store. If you are looking for a peaceful getaway from everyday same old same old I would highly reccomend Hominy Ridge, you will never regret it, if nothing else you will be trying to plan your next trip there ASAP.Tabatha Kuzina
