Hazardous, Mold, Size of Walk-in Closet
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/13/11
First off, the microwave and refrigerator were located a couple feet from the bathtub and toilet Second - the refrigerator had tons of black mold in it. When I brought this up to the owner he said simply, "well if you had told us about it earlier we would have just wiped it off" wiped it off?? How about disinfect!? Thirdly since we are on the subject of disinfecting - the bed sheets which are yellowed and stained with age are not disinfected, but washed and then hung to dry (not on a clothesline even!) on the railings of a paint peeled second floor deck. Fourth - the noise was incredible, constantly hearing doors slamming , as well as having a big drunk guy slamming on our door for a few good minutes at midnight. Fifth - no parking! All around this place within a few blocks are all METERED parking. You do get a parking permit for $40 which you get refunded for after you return it, but the permit spots close by are few and far between so you have to go about 5 or 6 blocks away from the hotel to park. The permits are not even required after 5pm, and the meters which surround this "hotel"run till midnight. Good luck finagling your way around that one! The prices are ridiculous! $175 for a room the size of a walk in closet, with less than a foot of space on either side of the bed. All the appliances are filthy, I doubt the sprinklers even work because they are practically hanging out of the ceiling, and the shower head is rusted and crusty and falling out of the wall. Don't walk on the linoleum floor without shoes on, and bring your own soap, the soap that was provided leaves a disgusting sticky residue on your hands that feels like glue! $175??? I don't think so! The owner is VERY RUDE too - and NO, having a flat screen tv and wifi does not make anything okay, it just filters out the horrible experience you are having while you try to fall asleep on decrepit stained bedsheets

never again!!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/8/11
Well prices werent to bad to stay there compared to other hotels in the area. checked in and room was ready right away did not have to wait til 3 to get in. hotel room was clean... a/c wasnt the coldest, the outside door was by our room and it slammed like every 3 minutes all night long and started early in the morning. we had to pay 5.00 to park at a hotel that i was staying in. or i had a choice to pay 40.00 deposit on a pass and park on a free street but could not guarentee us parking any where close to the hotel... so we paid 5.00 to park and he showed us where to park. i had to go back and front 12 times to get my car off the sidewalk and under the building.. when i checked out the next day there was a car parked next to me i couldnt get out i told the guy and he said there is a phone number on there ticket call them and tell them they need to move there car... its not my hotel or my job to call his customers and ask them to move so that pissed me off.... so i would never go back to the hotel again....

Stay away! Do NOT stay here!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/9/10
This place is awful. The innkeeper is a creep and acts like you're bothering him when you call to make a reservation or check in. The place is filthy. There was a layer of dust on the bedside table so thick you could write your name in it, and there were cockroach droppings on the AC unit about a foot from my bed. We changed rooms, only to discover that the pillow had 4-5 long hairs on it, which means that the sheets had not been changed since the last person stayed there. GROSS!!! We changed hotels--when we told the guy why we were leaving (dirty rooms, unclean sheets), he was utterly unapologetic and acted like we were being completely unreasonable and charged us for one night's stay. I'm sorry, but for $75 a night I don't expect much, but I do expect that the sheets have been changed since the last person stayed there.

We've used nicer porta-potties than this hotel!
By amanda, 8/2/09
My fiance wanted to surprise me for my birthday by spending a night in Rehoboth close to the beach, so he booked one night at the Summer Place Hotel. To start off, we walk into a nasty shrine full of trophies. We waited a couple minutes thinking someone would come and help us since when you walk in the bell goes off. At least there was a bell to ring. The innkeeper was very unwelcoming and seemed irritated when checking us in, as if we were a nuisance. Not a great way to treat anyone who is giving him business for staying at such hole --- ESPECIALLY FOR $200/night!!!!! At check-in, we had to pay $15; $10 to park next to hotel up next to the sidewalk and $5 for the key, which at least that was refundable at the time of our check-out. Our room was on the second floor. The entire hotel and our room was very small, tight, dingy smelling and dark. Our room was very hot and stuffy when we walked in. The room does need updates however the updates wasn't what bothered us immensely. The carpet didn't just look dirty, it was filthy - full of sand and dirt! We kept our shoes on the entire time. As for toiletries, instead of a shampoo/conditioner, we got two little bottles of lotion. That's great if you have dry skin and don't plan on showering and washing yourself! There was a 9" tv, mini-fridge with microwave all plugged into a multi-plug strip that wasn't even plugged in. We certainly didn't want to move any furniture to plug them in - who knows what else we'd find. The a/c in the wall was wrapped in duct tape - which covered the buttons. The a/c did actually work and cooled the room down to our liking - which was the ONLY thing we were satisfied with. As we were leaving for the evening through the lobby, where the innkeeper abruptly stops us and rudely states that we must use the side door, otherwise the bell keeps going off. Again, clearly we must be interrupting his quality time by staying at the hotel. When we turned in for the evening, we found a pack of cookies in bed!!!!! The pack of cookies would not had been missed if the sheets were changed and the bed made! WE WERE VERY DISGUSTED BY THE ROOM. We left the next morning by 8am for we couldn’t bare another minute there. To top it off, the fire alarm in our room kept going off. There was no fire or smoke in our room. We were unsuccessful in turning the alarm off; however it didn't seem to bother anyone in the hotel. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE - NOT EVEN FOR ONE NIGHT!!!! IT'S NOT WORTH $200/NIGHT+THE EXTRA EXPENSES EVEN IF THE LOCATION IS AS GOOD AS IT IS.

Summer Place
By Gwen, 6/19/09
The location is wonderful, it's close to all the shops and activities. I've stayed in the rooms and apts. Both are very clean and have all the appliances. Dan the owner has always gone beyond the call of duty and very friendly. Many times I've come with my son Michael and had a very enjoyable time. God Bless you and have a wonderful summer.

The worst
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/21/08
No one at front desk when we checked in, envelope with message on how to get in unclear, could find room, dirty...I can't believe this hotel was rated 3 stars, they need to take another looks at this one. I should have checked review before leaving.

"Something Keeps Bringing Us Back..."
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 8/9/08
Regardless of some probably deserved negative comments, its location and price make the Summer Place Hotel worth your stay. The hotel is an easy walk to the beach, shops, and restaurants, and you will probably pay more for your dinner at Jake's than you will for your night's stay. If you're a young single or couple looking to save a few bucks on your stay in Rehoboth, SP is the place for you (for your sake and the sake of everyone else in the thinly insulated hotel, don't bring small kids!) . This is probably not the place for folks who have difficulty walking (lots of stairs without handicapped access), folks who bring a lot of stuff with them (little closet space and tiny, fussy drawers), folks with children (see noise comment above as well as lack of space in the small rooms), or folks who enjoy the comforts of high end vacationing (this is not the Ritz). The good: Top notch location, best price-point in this location, no meddlesome cleaning staff (no maid service unless requested), and a really nice, quiet balcony off the second floor. The not-so-good: Beds and pillows lack comfort, rooms are small, everything that transpires in the rooms around you is completely audible, not much in the way of customer service. Yes, it is likely that this is one of the most bare-bones hotels that you might stay in, but you might be able to find solace and fall asleep just counting all of the money that you saved by choosing the Summer Place over one of the other, pricier hotels in Rehoboth.

Dumpster -- stay away, very creepy
By S, 7/7/08
This is a dumpster that is about 2 blocks from the beach, very creepy, dirty, smells, and the owner, who is either on drugs or drunk, half-naked, threatens you not walk through front door because it bothers him. Locks on doors don't work, and the owner makes you walk through the back door so that he would not see you. Garbage, will totally ruin your entire beach experience! They also advertise free parking, which is not true -- you have to drive around to find a free spot in the city, or pay at the meter. Towels are all ripped, not clean. I am not sure who posted positive reviews, but I made a mistake booking a room there based on these good reviews -- it was such an unwelcoming and unhealthy experience, considering that the half-naked owner almost physically pushes you around not to bother him. Creepy!

Good Value for Money
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/30/08
If all you need at the beach is a clean bed, and a room to shower and change, you can't beat this place for the amount you pay. You are one block from the beach and two blocks off Rehoboth Ave (main street in Rehoboth Beach, DE). Make no mistake, there are NO amenities here - if you are looking for luxury accomodations, turn-down service and free continental breakfast, go spend 2x to 3x the money for one of the places right on the boardwalk. But the Summer Place Hotel was both clean and convenient to downtown Rehoboth Beach.
