NOT WHAT IT SEEMS

We heard from others that if you go to the Keys, this is the place to stay. Upon arriving the hotel looked amazing outside, could not wait to see our room. Upon entering the front hallway, the "MOLD" odor hit us instantly. As we continued upstairs to our room, we were impressed with the size of the room, however it had a heavy strange smell that we can only assume was more mold. While unpacking we stumbled on loose tiles on the floor but didn't pay much attention to it. The next morning while we were out on the porch drinking coffee we heard what sounded like a LOT of water running to find out that it was a "Waterfall" from our ceiling onto the same lifted floor tile area. When we called for help, they just said it was from the jacuzzi above us and never even adjusted our bill for the problem? Remember its $475 a night for room 201. This hotel is wonderful to look at from the outside, but the inside is quite another story. There is a beautiful pool but its not only for the guests, they sell admission to anyone that wants to pay to swim there and there are always non-guests swimming/drinking/partying all day and all night. My opinion is that the owners of the hotel only take from it and do very little if any upkeep other than for the outside to encourage people to think they are getting something that is not there. Eventually when the owners deplete their "Cash cow" and move on there will be nothing left. For some reason the pictures on the web site look really good and even when I tried to take pictures of the water leaks, loose tiles, old chipped furniture which wasn't really antiques, just old furniture, I was amazed that my pictures came out hiding the bad part. I was under the impression that there was a beach there, but THERE IS NO BEACH..just a concrete deck with huge rocks that the waves break over. Before you book, do yourself a favor and do some research on your own, don't fall for what you think is going to be a charming victorian hotel because that is so far from the truth. At night time when it gets dark, all the employees of the hotel leave and you are on your own if you should have a problem.
