By ViktoriaP, 05/27/09
likes: all u have to do is walk out the door and you are in pike place market (really like a hundred feet). next to bar's, restaurants and attractions. it was clean and the bed were cumpfy. and every day they had something going on. great if your traveling alone. and great breakfast way better then normal hotel dis-likes: defiantly not a youth hostel. Lot's of older people. bunk bed's were high

One of the best (if not the best)
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 04/14/08
This is easily one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. The location was excellent: near lots of bars, stores and near the market. The bathrooms were the cleanest and most luxurious I have experienced in any hostel anywhere in the world. The staff were very helpful and the rooms and beds were clean. There was a real party atmosphere and the people were friendly. The wireless internet was fast. The breakfast was great for a hostel. It included waffles and eggs as well as usual things like toast. The only down side was that I had a really smelly guy in my room on the last night and the staff said they couldn't move me because the place was full.

Miguel and Andrew: snobs, rude, lazy, dirty, smelly.
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 01/14/08
Just what it suggest in the review title, otherwise, most else was fine except for the 24/7 noise, and NO ventilation. Do you like heavy tobacco smoke 24/7? --then stay here in this smelly dank place at the end of the world. The dinners three times weekly are fine if you like your cooks dirty, and folks who never seem to wash their hands; also, cooks sneezing, coughing, hacking, and smoking in the kitchen while they cook. The cooks and night staff are always high high high.

best hostel I've ever been to
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/28/07
The Green Tortoise Seattle Hostel is the best hostel I've ever been to and I've travelled a lot through Australia, New Zealand and USA : everything is thought for us (from the little curtains around the bed, to the individual fan and lamp, the free breakfast is full of fresh fruits, hand made "gauffres" style pancakes, eggs, etc... and I was told that the free diners are amazing too; the bathroom are large ; the free internet computers are numerous (Mac and PC), the staff is so helpful (carrying our luggage and offering shampoo if we forgot our own) + the location is great downtown Really BRAVO for having at last an hostel not to make money but to help the travellers

Great place!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 07/04/07
Stayed at the hostel for 3 nights in a female dorm. Beds were comfortable and clean. Bathrooms were large, private and very clean. Good location, right beside the pike street market. Walking distance to most places. Free breakfast every morning and three nights a week they have a free supper-which was great. Free internet, computers can be slow at times. The best part was the great staff working there. Very helpful and friendly. A good group of travellers that stay there too. No complaints, would definetly stay there again.

Free Internet - 11 Computers. The Showers are like a Greek bathhouse only private. Nice! They carried my bags to the room, but no hounding for a tip! Nice staff!

Feels like a shelter
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/09/06
This place feels like a shelter or some half way house. If you dont mind that youll probably have a good time. The staff are nice. Even though some of the partime (work to stay program) people are dubious.

Tortoise Power!
By no, 02/16/06
I've stayed at the Green Tortoise several times. It's a great bargain and located right in the heart of downtown Seattle. There are kitchen facilities and free breakfast (or so I'm told - I'm not a breakfast person) and several nights a week they even offer free dinner. Free internet access is included, although the last time I was there they only had a few computers and there was a considerable wait to use them. Being a hostel, there are lots of young, friendly travellers. The staff is friendly. It's pretty clean --- and there is some seriously groovy, retro carpet throughout. Overall, I've had pleasant experiences. The one caution I'd say is sometimes some sketchy people hang out in front of the building.

A Great Value...Great Staff...
By Einstein, 11/30/05
We have stayed at the Green Tortoise several times and have enjoyed our stay each and every time. It's current location isn't the greatest however it isn't terrible either. They are in the process of moving and the new location will be great as it is just outside the Pike Market. We are unsure about the dorm rooms as we have only stayed in the private rooms and they are as nice if not nicer than many hotel rooms we have stayed in. Overall, we enjoy staying at the Tortoise and find that it is a great value.
