I have NEVER had a more terrible experience than here and I have traveled all over the world. The whole exp was bad but on the last day the owner himself yelled at me, wasted my time and money, tried to charge me extra night, and refused to return my ID for so long I started to panic and cry thinking I would miss my flight. Eventually he THREW MY ID IN MY FACE. I RAN OUT CRYING. NEVER EVER STAY HERE!!!
The place was very clean.
The location was residential and beautiful.
Staff was helpful and readily available.
Love love loved the free wifi and computers (Never happens in hostels!)
Living rooms was comfy and had Direct Tv.
Would definitely stay again.
Of course I don't recommend this hostel for anything.
I made my reservations over the phone after being unable to find any other room. When I arrived at 9:00pm I paid with my credit card for my reservation. I was given a key for the doorknob lock. The door had a deadbolt that could be locked only from the inside. It was obvious that the room had been broken into from the state of the door.
The only light was a bare overhead bulb that showed the metal spring protruding from the mattress and sheets that didn't fit. I managed to get the upper bunk mattress to the floor while listening to the residents exit, enter and belch till late into the night.
The next morning I found a used razor in the shower and dirty dishes in the drainboard.
The outside and inside were both dirty and unkempt, piles of trash overflowing the dumpster.
It took me till 4:oopm to find another hotel room; there was a huge convention in town. I went to the front desk and asked the desk clerk to reverse the charges for the remaining 4 nights. I told him of the condition of the room. He refused. I asked him to call his manager. He did apparently but I was not allowed to talk to the manager but the clerk assured me that the manager agreed there would be no refund. I made another attempt to persuade him but was again refused. I have contacted my credit card company for legitimate reimbursement.
Of course I don't recommend this hostel for anything
This was a really nice hostel. They had a lot of fun things to do I really liked the movie nights with pop corn it was a nice touch. They have a free gas BBQ grill that they let all the guests use. I stayed there about a year ago and they have mad a lot of improvements to it since then including some remodeling and there is all new staff (they where very friendly and helpful). It is close to the downtown area it only took me about 10 minutes to walk and they have a big grocery store just up the street. I would defiantly recommend this hostel to anyone!!!
Nice neighborhood, close to downtown, ski bus left from right there, super market close by, & friendly environment
I must say I had the very best experiance of any hostel in Salt Lake City. The Staff was very helpful, pleasant, and they go the extra mile to make you feel at home. I was kind of suprise when they told me that to get a blanket it would be $2.00 but when they gave me a comforter and explained the cost was to cover the cleaning of the blanket I can see it was reasonable, I rather pay $2.00 for a nice and clean blanket instead of getting one that someone else has slept in. The hostel was very clean, and the kitchen was very nice. One of the staff cooked a turckey and all the trimmings and told everyone they could have some if they wanted. Close to a supermarket, coffee shops, and restraunts.
I had a great experience staying at the Avenues Hostel.
I came here to ski. The Avenues was great. I met a lot people from around the world. Every morning I went to ski with the Japanese group. The Avenues have a van which they only charge $20 a day. It was very convienient.
When we came back from the slope, Charlie the guy who is doing the cleaning, very frequently would have food cooked for everybody in the hostel. The food was great. Thanks Charlie.
The staff were veyr helpful. The guests were all very friendly to each other. At night we would watch a movie on a big screen TV.
I high recommend the Avenues to anybody going to Salt Lake City for vacation.
