Decent hotel overall.
By Juan, 09/07/09
I went with my girlfriend for a 5 day trip. Overall I liked the hotel, the bellboys and manager were very helpful and gave us advice on how to get around town and places to eat. There were two girls that worked at the front desk that had a huge attitude and I felt like I was pulling teeth when I had a question with them. For example, I asked the short Hispanic girl of what she liked in the area to eat. She gave me a sheet of paper with restaurants listed in the area. I restated that I wanted her opinion, hoping I could get a locals perspective on what was good, and she simply told me to look at the paper and thats what it was for. I came back a few minutes to ask her boss the same question in front of her and he was helpful, I hope she got the hint! The room was comfy but the lighting was a little too low sometimes. It was right across from the subway enterance and only 15-20 minutes from Time Square. I would go back and hope those two girls dont still work there. Try out the French Brazilian restaurant(Brazilian Mettise

THE WORST HOTEL I HAVE EVER STAYED IN
By Anonymous, 01/09/09
The only good aspect was the subway being across the road - and other convenient amenities such as a liquor store (You'd need it after staying here) and McDonalds (because the hotel has no room service). The rooms were shabby, the lights were dark and the corridors were plain creepy. As you walk up and down the stairs the stairs would creak - it was like a horror movie. What I hated most about the hotel is the lack of an elevator. When travelling in Winter with a 25kg/55lb of luggage, you don't want to lug it up and down 8 flights of stairs (that was luckily enough for me, it could have been higher). The service was quite shabby. Only one or two of the 10 or so staff actually made an effort to be polite, whereas management and other front-desk staff couldn't care less about whether you were there or not. On another note, the cost of staying there is ridiculous. We found a better hotel in the heart of times square (AND FURTHER AWAY FROM HARLEM) for a much better price. They call this hotel a boutique.. I say it's false advertising at its peak as its plainly a shabby little apartment building which has little to offer in terms of comfort and leisure.

THE WORSE HOTEL OF ALL TIMES
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/29/07
The only thing likeable is the Lounge Area and the Metro train near by, and thats it! You are basically paying for ridiculious amounts of money for a hotel which really is an apartment. It has an 8ft by 8ft kind of bathroom, and a small bedroom that you can barely walk around in. The TV has 5 basic channels and 1 movie review channel, which really was boring! The front desk people are extremely no help unless you call them 4 or 5 times asking them for essentials needed in a typical hotel room! By the way if you are going there during the winter time, there is no heat in the rooms! The location is a very nice for just to walk around in, otherwise all the tourist attractions are nowhere near. To top it off they have bed bugs, and trust me that is the last thing you need! O yeah before I forget, there isnt any internet connection in the rooms, so if you are trying to use your wireless internet laptop, you can only use it in the lounge. The cleaning person comes very rarely to fix up the rooms also.

BED BUGS GALORE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/27/07
Bed bug infested.. i have over 40 bites on my arms and neck its been a week since I've been bitten and they are finally starting to subside. They gave me a complimentary night stay i.e refund of one night, but even then i feel like i waisted my money. I had to be moved 3 separate times because of the bed bugs in different rooms, both sides of the hotel. I WOULD NEVER RECOMMEND THIS HOTEL TO ANYONE. NOT EVEN FOR ONE NIGHT

NEVER again....DO NOT STAY HERE
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/19/07
The most AWEFUL experience ever. Our room was over booked, the only option they gave us was to go to their sister hotel, which didn't except credit cards, cash and traveler checks only (SKETCHY). Jason, who was working the front desk, the ONLY person working the desk, was extremely unprofessional. He was yelling and telling us that that would be the only hotel we could stay at because it was so late at night, and to find a hotel at that time in Manhattan would be impossible. We left and stayed at the Hilton, and we told him that they needed to compensate us for everything. The managers were not willing to do that. It took ALOT of yelling and screaming to get our money back. To make a long story short.....The Hilton ended up compensating us for our stay and they billed the Marrackech. It was the most god aweful experience ever and to top it all off, we were not the only couple this night that it was happening to. Their were 2 other couples dealing w/ the same situation..we all ended up at the Hilton, and we all got our money back. DO NOT EVER STAY HERE YOU WILL REGRET IT.....plus they have rats and bedbugs.......

It's like a Homeless Shelter
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/01/07
Dislike: - Bedbugs - Arrogant Front Desk Staff - no working phone lines - having to climb up and down 4 flights of stairs because of the non-working phone line - mental woman in hallways screaming and shouting in the middle of the night - not being able to sleep there - brought bedbugs home with me; so this hotel is costing a lot more than initially planned! Like: - nice bellboys, who carried my luggage to 3 different rooms (because of pest problem and non-working phones) - nice bar lady, who mixes the best tequila cocktail - great location for restaurants and subway.

Rats & Bed bugs
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/17/07
First off, the Marrakech is in a nice neighborhood, but a residential one - it's quite far from most tourist attractions. The set-up is weird - you have to walk up a long, narrow and dark stairway just to arrive at the lobby, where you'll be greeted by surly unhelpful staff. The rooms are tiny - far smaller than they look on the website, and to top it all off, my husband and I both woke up with BED BUG bites on our first morning. When we complained to management, they said they didn't have any other rooms, then refused to refund our money when we checked out early - they had the nerve to suggest that we may have brought the bugs with us! Oh, and the icing on the cake? Check out the little alleyway behind the building, where they dump all of their garbage out in the open (i.e. no cans or dumpsters) - absolutely swimming with RATS!!

You get what you pay for
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/22/07
We stayed in the Marrakech HOSTEL - it is situated in the same building and you share the lobby and the room for breakfast and chill out. The dorm room for 4 people was tiny (you cannot open a suitcase in the room!) and smelled. The management should invest money in decent cleaning, not kinky looking doormen with headsets! The bathroom on the floor was never clean, but ok. The pro is the price and location. We payed 40 Dollars /night! That`s the best deal you can get in town. The location is okay, the neighbourhood is save, there is a lot to do and the metro station is right in front of the hostel. I would go there again on my own, but not with my girlfriend.

NEVER AGAIN
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 09/17/07
We had booked to stay twice on the same holiday, in between stays we visited 2 other cities. On the first visit to the Marrakech we were given a room that overlooked a duct and a brick wall and the decor was very drab. The hotel was very dark in most areas. We were unable to read as the lighting in the rooms was poor. On our second visit our room was better situated although the general conditions were the same as the first visit

Only one complaint - too dark
By Jan, 06/25/07
As is the case with all things - you get what you pay for. The hallways and rooms were too dark but this natually keeps down on cleaning and maintenance costs. The bed was fine, sheets appeared clean, water was hot and the room had wall-mounted flat screen television. The sobway was right out side the building and it generally only took my about 15 minutes to get to midtown on the downtown 1. If you are a foreign tourist you should know that you are not going to get anything nice in NYC for less than USD $300 a night. I am from the area and was in town on business (I live in Tokyo). I thought it was completely acceptable and would stay there again if my business expense budget was constrained.
