Small compact hostel,in a handy location
I stayed at the Wanderers Inn West for five nights during November. When I first arrived at the hostel, the member of staff behind the desk,in the office, was very helpful and polite. However, the member of staff on duty for the next few days I found to be ignorant and not very helpful at times.(Though he was freindly on the last day, I must of caught him on a bad day to start with!)The dorm that I stayed in was a mixed dorm with a shared shower and toilet room. The bed I stayed in came with clean linning and was comfortable. All rooms including the washing facilities were clean I found, which makes for a better stay. The free breakfast provided in the morning was fantastic.(If you require breakfast,I advise you to get down to the kitchen around half an hour before the food is put out because it gets very crowded down there at breakfast time!)
The location is great. Two blocks away from the subway. And two blocks away from Central Park north. Also there is a great little bar on 110st West! During my stay,I experienced no problems in relation to crime or saftey in this part of NYC and I often walked back to the hostel from the subway or a bar at around 22:00-23:00 at night.
The Wanderers Inn West is good if you are on a budget and do not mind sharing facilities. I recommended this hostel for somebody who just wants somewhere to sleep, have a shower and grab some breakfast before exploring New York for the day.
