Great family vacation at Campfire Lodge
By WiFlyFisher, 5/12/12
We stayed there for a week last summer and it was peaceful and everyone was very friendly. The cabin was secluded in the forest and very clean and the breakfast and lunches were great. We went into Yellowstone National Park everday and rafted down the Gallatin River one afternoon. Everything was just a few minutes drive from Campfire Lodge. Fly fishing for trout was great on the Madison and other rivers in the area as well when I had time. We are planning right now to go back again this summer.

Will Never Return, pet unfriendly.
By R and A, 8/19/11
Not Pet Friendly. The owner accused us of letting our 2 dogs into the cabin our friends stayed in, We had a campsite. Where told that our dogs must be on leashes even though they stay right next to us and we also use training collars just in case they start to stray(I understand this rule for dogs that are a nuisance) We have stayed in many Forest Service campsites and have never been told by rangers or managers that we need to leash our dogs, in fact they usually compliment us on how well our dogs are behaved.

Water Problem Fixed
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 12/4/10
There was a water issue with the Resort. It has been corrected by the installation of a new Montana Department of Environmental Quality and Gallatin County Health Department approved well and water distribution system. The Lodge is taking every precaution to insure that the safety and well being of their customers are being met. This is a wonderful, peaceful Lodge nestled between Lake Hebgen and Quake Lake in the scenic Madison River Canyon. Campfire Lodge was established in the early 1920's as a roadhouse. Located on the Madison River and 20 minutes from the West Gate of Yellowstone National Park. Campfire Lodge has a long history as a favored vacation spot for families, sightseers and fishermen. The resort offers clean rustic individual cabins. All cabins have a private bathroom, all but 2 are with equipped kitchens, some with living rooms and separate bedrooms. There are RV sites with full hook ups, partial hook ups, along with tent camping. Also on site is a shower house with a laundry facility. The Cafe is a popular spot for the locals and long time annual area visitors alike, is renown for good food, healthy portions and a fabulous river side setting. There is a well stocked Fly shop as well for the many fishermen that fish the area's world class rivers and lakes. I would recommend Campfire Lodge to anyone looking for a vacation in a beautiful outdoor setting at a moderate price.

Trouble with the water - beware
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 7/30/10
For the past few weeks there has been sickness to patrons of the resteraunt and lodge. The water has been found to have ecoli, and up to 70 people have reported to the nearby Ennis hospital for symptoms. The Montans DEQ web site has details.

Thankful for new owners
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 6/21/10
My family used to go to campfire and stay in the cabins a few years back. The location and place is beautiful. The customer service from previous owners Chuck and Nancy and their family was terrible. I have never been treated so poorly. Now that the campground has changed owners, I can't wait to visit again.

Not worth the price
By BobGeorge, 2/15/10
Stayed in cabin 7. At cost of $100 a night. The shabby furnishings and uncomfortable beds were the biggest dissapointment. The price is now more than double. My family of six would cost $250 a night. This is not worth that price. The campground is nice but far from town, very far! We enjoyed the blueberry pancakes at the diner. Can't comment on the owners because they were never around.

We wll always go back.
By TOMMYG, 9/10/09
We have stayed at Campfire with both the old and new owners. The location CANNOT be beat!! The price seems comparable to any great location(prices go up at most). Jim and Wendy seem to have gotten their feet on the ground as far as service is concerned. We stayed in a motorhome.

Wonderful spot to stay - great place to eat
By Tim, 8/20/09
Stayed in one of the smaller cabins and ate a couple meals at the cafe during a fishing trip to the area in Aug 09. I would highly recommend this place. People were friendly, cabin immaculate, and the food was outstanding. I will definitely be back.

New Owners will be bad for business
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 9/24/08
I have stayed at this facility approximately 10 times over the past 15 years. I love the area - and the facility. It is under new ownership and my last visit was not pleasant. Their customer service is good - and I would not recommend to anyone ever going back. There are many other facilities in the area where owners are glad to see you - and happy to have you. They appreciate you as customers - clients, and want you to come back. THIS DOES NOT DESCRIBE THE OWNERS OF THE CAMPFIRE LODGE. Go somewhere else in the area - don't give them the satisfaction of your hard earned money

I grew up there-!! in the 60s/70s
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 1/20/08
This area was inhabited by Adventurous Grizzly Bear hunters'orginally-way back in the mid 1800s-I spent most of my childhood here as my Grandparents Margert & Rufus Shelton- owned it many years. ( They Had adopted me & were raising me after my Mother abandoned me )It has to be one of the most sacred places on Earth-The 'Spirit of my whole life I owe to Campfire Lodge, as from its great magnificence I evolved into the person I eventually became- (AS It is said 'Nature never rejects an Unmothered Child'!) This totally raw & untouched wilderness area of Campfire Lodge had also been the Heart of 'Blackfoot Indian summer hunting grounds-in the 1800s (& pre-contact).My Brother SAM (now deceased) & I used to find Arrowheads laying openly on the forest Floor! There is a special high lake nearby-you can ask about locating that has a RARE bright Golden Colored TROUT- & A pond with HUGE real LOTUS & the rarest wildflowers on Earth- ( beaver pond- dont forget to look for the beavers they are amazing to watch )I am sure most of the people whom talk about a Upbringing there in summer remember me! I was a Wild-Child who refused shoes in summers -running barefoot across the rocky Deer Trails! I always pushing guests' kids to sneak off to skinny-dip with me-in the Icey Cold white-water Rapids: I'd hold BIG Bon-fires every Friday nite for the visting Teens with free marshmellows & tell ghost stories! I'd feed free burgers from my Grandparents grill to any kid who hiked with me up mountains to look for Mountain Goats (easily seen nearby!)& Grizzly Bear. My grandparents sold it when I was about 13 years old- & now I am 44! -Good times! Its so good to know the same families that came when I was growing up/ grew up & now bring Their children as well! ALL that love from all those families will hold its 100+ cabins together I am sure for another 100+ years -because of you all! It is not to be missed!
