The place was about as nice as you can expect from a hostel. It didn't blow me away with the amenities, but I wasn't repulsed by it either.
My only issue is the location which is a bit outside of Boston and requires a short bus ride to the subway.
For people thinking that this is a hotel it's not. The style and upkeep is not on par with that of most respectable hotels.
First of all, I really don't understand all the bad reviews about this hostel. It might not be the best in the world as they allege, but it's still a very nice place.
The only disadvantage of this place was that it is really not in Boston but in Everett, which is really quite a long way to go but they offer free shuttles to the next subway station every hour. Of course this doesn't help at night time, when the subway doesn't run anymore.
The advantages of this place on the other hand were plenty: very nice, old fashioned building, very clean, the staff was very friendly. They also offer free internet, free coffee and have a huge tv set downstairs.
I have stayed at numerous hostels around the world and never had such a bad experience.
First off, the hostel isn't even in Boston. it's way out in a suburb, and it'S a 20$ cab ride downtown (not so fun when the subway is closed)
When we arrived, they shipped us to hostel #2 to our surprise. I expect taht when i book a hostel, i'd actually be staying there, not somewhere else. when we complained about this, the receptionist told us that next time we may want to do research, because it's the busiest weekend all year (not my problem). They could have told us that on the phone when we called. Hostel #2 was ugly, hospital-like and extremely noizy. I slept a total of 2 hours.
they charged us 40$ when the site states 30$. when asked about this, he replied, "well, why didn't you book online?". I said, "'cause i saw a phone number and decided to call in instead". He told me that was my problem, and that i should book online next time.
the staff was extremely rude and patronizing.
we asked for a refund for our second night and found someplace else to stay.
