6 reviews for Adelaide Hostel and Hotel, San Francisco
Good hostel, but be careful u don't get ripped off
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 11/01/08
I liked the free bagel breakfast, cheap dinners and free internet. The only problem was I paid for a 4 bed dorm and was put in a 6 bed dorm. I stayed there twice and both times was the same. I even informed them of this they said there was nothing they could do as they were full. They would not even refund my money, as they said my booking sheet did not say 4 bed dorm (although the price I paid was the quote I got for a four bed dorm).

The Adelaide Hostel San Francisco simply was outstanding ,the free breakfast of croissants, bagels,English Muffins and a choice of fruit preserves and nutella etc made this different from any other hostel I have ever stayed in, The free internet computer stations and the free WiFi for laptop computers was an unexpected bonus. Overall the Adelaide Hostel San Francisco was the best Hostel I have ever stayed in

we can't wait to never go back!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 08/21/07
I vehemently agree with the other reviewer's comments about the Adelaide Hostel. I had a dorm reservation booked more than 2 month in advance, but when I arrived to check-in, I was told that they had overbooked and I would be sent to another hostel. When I asked how that could be, since I had made my reservations months in advance, I was given a very curt response and told that it was "peak season" and that I should have arrived earlier. My flight had been delayed for a couple of hours and I couldn't get to a payphone to call them and because of that, my bed was just sold! That is insanely ridiculous and ignorant of them! I went to the hostel they had referred me to and was absolutely disgusted with the look of it. The staff was gloomy and unfriendly. It was more like a crackhouse than a guesthouse! I went back to the Adelaide the next day to check out the place and found it to be full of mentally unstable people and drunkards! It was more like the AAdelaide for Alcoholics Adelaide...certainly NOT anonymous! Never again. Please be careful and avoid the Adelaide hostel.

At your own risk...
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 05/05/07
I've just had a similar experience to another reviewer on this website... I booked in advance and had a confirmed private room. I turned up to find they had overbooked. Like the other poster, they sent me to another hotel. The hotel I was sent to looked truly terrible. I refused to stay there and the owner threatened to charge me anyway since I'd booked with the Adelaide and the Adelaide had referred me on. I refused threatening to sue him if he charged me and left the hotel. After walking around for an hour or two, I eventually somewhere. At first, I wondered whether this might have been an honest mistake. But having seen other posters on this and other forums, I get the strong impression that the Adelaide overbook as a policy...it means they cover themselves if people don't turn up. So, this hostel is for you if you want a bit of excitment and don't mind the prospect of turning up to your hotel after a long trip only to find yourself walking the streets going from hotel to hotel trying to find a spare room.

tRy at your own risk!!
By A Yahoo! Contributor, 10/15/06
I booked 2 weeks in advance and had a confirmed dorm bed in Adelaide Hostel for 2 nights. But when I arrived, I was told they overbooked and had to send me to another hostel which actually does not have my requested 2 nights for me! In the end, I was lucky that the USA hostel I was sent to was able to make adjustments and I could stay for 2 nights. And can you imagine - my dorm room was full of people who were sent there because Adelaide Hostel overbooked! To me, for something like this to happen, the hostel has lost all its creditability. I would NEVER want to stay in a hostel like that.
