The facilities are extremely old and ill-maintained. The landlord and managers are extremely unfriendly. For foreigners, please give your passport to a stranger security guy for "deposit"; otherwise you will be either kicked out of the hotel or sleeplessly argue with them forever. In brief, the price is cheap, but the experience is a nightmare that worths no penny.
the location is great. notting hill is a charming place and the hostel is only some steps away from the tube station. furthermore there's a night bus going to notting hill, so you don't have to worry about getting home at night (or have to spend a fortune on a cab).
room rates are low (well, it's fairly priced compared to other london accomodation). however if you see what the hostel really offers rooms are overpriced. which brings me to the negative aspects:
staff was not really friendly. i always thought people were making fun of the guests in a way (by speaking in a language other than english, preferably spanish).
meals are a joke. you get the same things every single day (eg sticky tomatoe pasta without any taste) and i was really wondering if they ever threw away the rests or if they reused them.
toilets and showers are disgusting more or less. they're not being cleaned on weekends which is -you might have guessed it- not very hygienic. moreover you should not be claustrophobic because showers are really tiny rooms with no windows. toilets flushes don't work properly and if you don't try hard (and residents usually don't do) you won't manage to flush at all.
Rooms are kind of small. and even if you booked a certain type of room or for example made a reservation for 2 in a 4 bed room you can't be sure to get what you reserved. they don't really care about service or anything.
people staying at the hostel are often long term residents, which means most of them know eachother and it's not that pleasing if half the hostel meets up in your room when you want to spend some time alone or i don't know...
so you see, bowden court is not really that great, but the location is convenient. and by that i mean really convenient. the neighbourhood's nice. mein fazit also: bowden court is situated in a great location. nothing less, nothing more.
