Diamond Diggers Backpackers, Johannesburg

I was traveling with a large group, and we'd been told by a group we were staying with elsewhere that when they were there they checked out after the first night because when they arrived the staff was drunk and shirtless and there were bed bugs. When our group leader called to ask about this and to get our money back, the owner assured us it would not happen again. However, we arrived and were placed in a filthy house with old food in the cupboards (found a full plate of mashed potatoes and veggies in one cupboard) and filthy sheets and pillows. The outside doors were all broken and one did not even close. One of the bedrooms had a missing window pane. The staff did not tell us that this house we'd filled up was a communal house for the whole hostel, and were unaware of that fact until reading it in the bar, so we had people in and out of and using our bathroom and our kitchen all evening. Found bed bugs of all sorts of shapes and sizes in almost every bed and in our towels. Checked out the next morning.

What a fab place. Food excellent -Jason new manager really friendly helped me work our a travel trip round the country. He knows his stuff, advise anyone to sort out travel plans with him.The on site bar with a jacuzzi in it is a fantastic idea.all I can say about this place is FANTASTIC, be coming back in a few weeks so keep the beers chilled Barbara.
