DO NOT STAY HERE IT IS UNSAFE!!!!!A group of 4 of us stayed a few nights ago at the Baltic Hostel it was the stuff of nightmares. When asleep a man broke down our glass door and had to be dragged off me by the police. Blood was everywhere and my phone got trodden on. But all the hostel has to say was they arent responsible for peoples actions. But how can someone be able to repeatedly ram a door and break the glass a room which was opposite a reception we were told was manned 24 hours a day. We are all very shaken and upset we did not get any money for compensation and were told it was a hostel for the lower end of society not travellers. WORST EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Apart from this hostel Gdansk itself was lovely and I would well recommend it but staying in another hotel more in the city centre!!!!
We liked the host. He was very friendly and offered us his delicious homemade soup. It was a short walk from the train station, but difficult to find. The bedroom was very clean.
There was no smokeless community room since they allow smoking which I find unacceptable. There was no place to cook. I had to wash our dishes and bowls in cold water. There were only 2 very small and inconvenient showers. Had to take a cold shower (in the winter) due to 100 morning guests. The stairway has a disgusting smell of cat urine. Since a previous rating remarked on the cat urine stench, they should try to eliminate it. Would not stay there again.
We arrived at 10 pm and missed the sign on the pavement outside the railway station. In the morning we realized what a great location it was - 3 min strollfrom train, bus and three tram stops from downtown.
IT has lovely family feel and we were well supplied with apples and strawberries, as well as hearty Polish Soup which was cheerfully cooked for fun! Our kids loved the homey feel and made friends as well. Shared bathrooms were limiting but manageable.
The hostel\'s location is in the sea side harbou of the city of Gdynia with a beautiful beach and a
yacht club as neighbours. If you intend to discover Poland, then Gdynia is a great start as it is ...
